Pretty good deal, but honestly, I'd rather get an Asus EEE 900HA for not much more than that. Better build quality and a hard drive....8GB ssd's are fine for linux, but I think at least 16GB is needed to run Windows properly and have enough space for, well, anything.

Just a caveat: Many reviews sum up the combo of XP+SSD as being unusable for real world tasks, as the SSDs that Acer uses are lackluster, at best. FWIW...

Yeah, as cheap as it is, I'm glad I have my 160gb version. I would feel pretty limited with what I could do with 8 gigs only. Plus it's apparently slower.....

Can be done, but would be easier to just buy the HD version to start, and then do the swap.

It isn't necessarily the size, as it is the specs of the OEM drive. There have been a lot of complaints regarding the performance being laggy and unacceptable.

In the end, I believe that the stock SSDs are best relegated to Linux duty.

This is not a bad deal for best buy, where stuff is generally overpriced.

Windows XP is constantly running background functions, and the constant simultaneous read/write is more than enough to make the SSD cry uncle. I myself am not 100% clear why this is so yet, but I think the jmicron controllers might be to blame.
