I almost got this on impulse first time but glad I didnt, I would not have used it enough to justify the cost and if anything I would really want an i5 / i7 version.

Damn, I already went this route once, and I kind of regret getting rid of my M11x. I might have to sell my netbook and go for this M11x. Sheesh.

I regret nothing, about getting rid of it. :) I wanted something more physically stable.

I'm debating between the M11x (again) and the Acer 3820TG. With the current promotion, net difference between the M11x and 3820TG is about $120. And about $250 or $370 out of pocket if I sell my netbook. I love my 12" netbook so far, but sometimes wish it could play some newer games. But it's probably better I don't because then I'll get nothing done.

The M11x I had was perfectly sound too. I thought it was a little extravagent for what I needed, and actually didn't lose much money on it when I sold it, maybe $50 because I got the initial promotional deal with it.

Anyhow, thanks for the link. I guess I'll have to decide in the next day or two before it expires.

    Well not a problem.
Infact Alienware stands for its quality and brand.
Its sort of unique and catches eye.
I would certainly be allover M11X rather than Acer.
But it gets funny sometimes when I get "Is that a Chinese notebook" for my M17X.
    ;)

Well, the Acer TimelineX brand has good quality from what I hear. This one has an aluminum lid and overall solid construction, and you can't beat performance in a 13" laptop, which is nearly the same size as the M11x, so you get the larger screen. Both have reflective displays and that's one thing that drove me nuts about the M11x. The Acer looks more "professional" or at least something I'd be fine taking into a meeting. The AW might raise a few eyebrows (not necessarily in a good way).

My $300 12" netbook actually has a better contrast display than the M11x did, but I hear the Acer isn't much better. That's definitely a consideration for me at least. I can use my netbook outdoors actually.

What the pros come down to really is:

    Acer 3820TG:
    - higher performance GPU
    - i3 CPU
    - larger display

    M11x
    - Price
    - Optimus (really a pro?)

Thanks, but if I'm getting one I'm going for one with a performance GPU. The DV3 only comes with the GMA 4500MHD, same as my current netbook.

Can you provide a link to where you can buy it? I don't see it on HP's site. All the google searches for specs or third party vendors show it only with the Intel GPU.

$600 sounds like a good deal for that, but you really dont get much for the price. if you compared that price to another computer, not a M11x you could get more for your $600. The m11x is a nice computer dont get me wrong !

FYI, if anyone's looking to shave a bit more off the cost, the Dell Outlet is offering the R1 refurbs for $499 today only.

    Dell Factory Outlet

(Price shows as $749 on the page, but will show in the cart at $499.)

I think $600 is a good price. There's really no other laptops with those specs 13" and under for that price. The Acer 3820TG is over $750 when all said and done shipped to the USA. Otherwise you've got the Sony Vaio Z for $1500+.

Holy COW! With 4GB RAM and 250GB HDD (instead of 2GB and 160GB for new).

That's a great deal. Dangit, and I was deciding against it. I may have to go forward with it. It's in my cart, only 15 minutes.... tick tock.

Only problem is that I'd have to put in an SSD because the HDD in the one I had before drove me nuts. The vibration put my hands to sleep. Only thing I don't like is it's bigger than my 12.1" netbook, but only has an 11.6" screen. And I'm assuming refurbished would have all the hinge issues and screen issues and everything taken care of?

    Need a suggestion here guys!
    I have a M1730 with T8300 and 87M SLI.
DVD RW, Physx, 120X2 HDD and other stuff.
    Warranty gone!
I really cannot hold onto grab M11X for $499.
Can I get enough money from my old M1730 to pay for this alienware?
Also do you think it will be a wise choice?
    THanks

    8700M SLI and T8300 vs GT 335m and SU7300?

That would be a pretty big trade-down unless you need portability. GPU and CPU performance are definitely better than the M11x. You'd also only have a single HDD slot and no DVDRW.

I'm sure you could get enough to break even, and probably even more. So up to you if it's worth it.

I think GT 335M beats 87M SLI as of notebookcheck.

Also how much can SU7300 be overclocked?
I was into this notebook because my M1730 is out of warranty and I was looking for something with warranty to be safe.

Well if you look at the actual benchmark results, the 8700m GT SLI scores higher, by about 20% in everything. CPU is at least twice as powerful. Not sure why they'd score the GT 335m higher. The SU7300 can be overclocked to 1.7GHz in the BIOS. Not sure if there's other options for software overclocking. Last I knew there wasn't.

Is this just an "extra" laptop as I notice the specs for your M1730 in your sig are different/better.

This is a third one that my gf has.
So, if selling this M1730 cover the price then I was thinking to go for M11X.

Call your credit card company, they're the ones that offer the warranty.

    It's your decision now!
