I'm pretty sure the r1 was already $599 without a sale.

Edit: Oh nevermind, the ram and HDD is upgraded. Actually is that a an r1? why does it have a u5400 processor.

There is another coupon code for $50 off which lowers the price even more. I can get the 256GB SSD - Samsung Solid State Drive SSD inside the machine for $1,149.00 total. And apparently shipping is free..7 day shipping

cpumark actually has the U5400 as slower than the SU7300:

    Intel Pentium U5400 @ 1.20GHz 926
    Intel SU7300 @ 1.30GHz 978

There's no turbo boost in the celeron/i3 i-cores. Need the i5 to boost it with Throttlestop. Still, it should allow a BCLK overclock using setfsb/setPLL. Hard to say if it will be any faster than a m11xR1 or not. It will probably consume more power than the ULV C2D SU4100/SU7300.

The m11xR2 with an i5 is the one to get for maximum overclocking.

I thought Alienware/Dell discontinued the R1 about a month ago?

looks that they are trying to get more milk out of the dead cow. i mean a U5400?? seriously? what happened to the SU7300? They are charging the same price for a lower end CPU.

U5400 is basically an i3 with no hyperthreading with a built in IGP. So it's an R2 essentially with a slower chip than what they had offered previously. In any case with extra $50 off coupon, not a half-bad deal.

    I just ordered one.

I hope they're not the extra ones they made before the hinge fix. :p

As far as I know only the R3's are built with the hinge fix. All R1 and R2's never had the new hinge design implemented. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :( But the good news is that it will be covered in or out of warranty.

HTWingNut, do you have a link to some instructions on how to fix the hinges?

No, but I saw the failure and how others have just used some high strength bondo to secure it down. Basically it's using some industrial strength glue to make up for the stripped screws.

Or you can always use super glue *jokes*
It does not take a true nerd to replace the hinges, its actually quite easy.
