This deal has been going basically constantly and still only has the old/slow cpu.

I guess they are trying to clear stock, but I wish they would make it cheaper. This honestly has become the normal price not a discount price.

They need to update their outlet pricing on the M11x R1s...

Yeah, I'm about to buy a Samsung N150 Netbook for $300. If the M11x R1 were around $450 I could justify the leap in price. Otherwise, forget it...old CPU/old GPU...m11x is definitely getting a refresh very soon IMO. I'm waiting for the Lenovo Y470 for my main computer. :)

The Base $550 m11x r1 (after coupon) with the core2duo su7300 and gt335m will obliterate your n150 atom/integrated gpu, even the base m11x r1 destroys the current d525 dual core atom/ nvidia ion 2 gpu, add the lighting effects, real windows 7 os 64 home premium (not the windows 7 starter/xp os crap that comes with most of the netbooks)

So a $300 netbook and adding $250 more is definitely worth it for the r1 base m11x

I'm not sure you understand, though...you are talking about nearly doubling the price of a $300 computer to get decent games performance. I'd rather get a small netbook for browsing/Word/etc. Maybe if they refresh the M11x (GPU is too slow for new procs) it will be an all-in-one solution...but for now I think I am going to get a netbook today and the Lenovo Y470 in May.

Even the "older" Core 2 based M11x's are in a different league than netbooks and as your needs requirements say, it isn't really for you. You'd be fine with a
netbook. The problem with the M11x is it isn't really a netbook at ~4.5lbs and a pretty hefty PSU.

If on the go gaming is a priority along with good battery life and a slight be more junk in the trunk, the M11x fits a very nice niche.

Well, IMO the m11x is kinda vague in its league.

Actually, which league does it belong to? :p

Well believe me, I'd love to get a sub-14" notebook that can play BF:BC2 (and handle BF3 in the future). I was evaluating the M11x but in order to handle BF:BC2 reliably an i5 or i7 is needed - and that adds so much cost. Once you're at that price poing, you're in the range of some pretty powerful notebooks. The Lenovo Y470 should be around $1k-$1.5k with i7 Sandy Bridge, GT 555M Optimus...but that's not out until May and I'd like to have something to futz around with in the meantime - hence my netbook shopping. But it's tough to use restraint. Going much over $300 and it's money I should probably put towards my gaming/main laptop. :) Maybe an Asus with one of the new dual-core Atoms...$380 on Amazon. Ion or no Ion.

Yeah, but don't the y470 and m11x have the same res?...

3 inches larger screen, but the same res.. disappointing.

I'm not sure, actually. It could very well have the same resolution. I'm not looking to go hardcore super gaming on this thing...otherwise I'd buy a 15 or 17" gaming laptop. I want a nice balance between gaming and portability.

Yeah.. I find 13" to small for my liking... though.

I think for a guy, 15" is the sweet spot.

11X is small but its performance is really big.
I really had nice time with my friend's 11X.

The closest competitor to the M11x in netbook form factor is the Asus 1215n. Which is going for, what, $500?

For $50 more you get a superior CPU and much superior GPU. Then you add in the pwetty lights and other Dellienware aesthetic designs.

I liked my 1215n. Great, light little machine. No problems with it. However, instead of buying a new one when I sold it to my brother, I figured it was a no-brainer to toss in another $50 for the M11x.

But like people have said, it's not for everyone. If a $300 single-core atom netbook meets your needs, there's no need to throw down more cash for a Dellienware.

I don't even know why he is complaining about the m11x price being too high, when the retail price of the m11x r1 b4 r2 came on the scene was around $800-900 base price, so having the opportunity to grab it at $550 brand new is a good price considering the asus 1215n with the dual core atom and ion 2 retails at $480-540 depending after tax/shipping and well all know su7300 is far superior than a dual core atom and the Geforce Gt 335 is way way ahead of the anemic ion 2.

If you really want a good balance of power/battery life that is still less than 3.5lbs and a real matte screen on the go and outdoor usage, i suggest waiting for the Lenovo Thinkpad x120e w/ AMD Fusion that is due to come out on Feb 15th of this month and starts at $399. It is faster than the current d525 dual core atom and ion 2.

The thing about Fusion is that the CPU and GPU are produced in 1 die, which can perform the function of both CPU and GPU... top that off with superior graphic capability and low power consumption (as low as 9W TDP)... that translates to less heat produced, and thus can fit into smaller chasis...

So spending $300 on a windows 7 starter or xp with an atom cpu that has a 10.1 screen and lower resolution than a 1366x768 w/ intelgma/ion/ion2 when amd fusion is about to come out that is less than $400 or m11x r1 base at $550 is being a sucker and not smart... REAL TALK

    • 1215n is $380.
    • AMD Fusion performance (see HP dm1z) is faster CPU, worse graphics than ION2

I've been looking at the AMD Fusion stuff (as you can probably tell, as my facts are actually true versus yours) and you're right - the older single core Atoms are not worth $300. I was just looking at Costco because I appreciate their return policy. I could get an HP dm1z (AMD Fusion) with 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200RPM, Win7 Home Premium for $485 through Costco...so that's how I will go. I am going to wait for the Lenovo x120e or the y470. Depends if I want to go super portable or semi-portable plus gaming and if I can wait until May for the y470.

Where? I've never seen the 1215n go under $475, not counting shipping and taxes.

    Where do you live?

There's mail holding centres you can have US-only items mailed to and then pick them up.

If you're in Ontario, use CBIUSA. They charge 5.95$ to hold your package :)

That's what I do with my US-only purchases as well as thousands of Ontarionans. There's centres like these at every border crossing on each side.
