Microsoft has an M17x deal that is only 2199.

This same configuration on dell's website is 3149.

A thousand dollars off is nothing to shake a stick at!

Dell Alienware M17x10 - Buy from Microsoft Store

the only real compromise is the lack of RGB LED screen. If this doesn't bother you, and you're looking to buy an m17x soon, this might be right up your ally.

    specs:

    space black m17xrx10 (10? lol)
    17inch (1440x900) display
    corei7 740qm quad core
    8gb 1333mhz ram
2gb ati radeon mobility 5870m in crossfire
1tb hard drive 7200rpm (im assuming there's two 500gb drives)
    slot-load blu-ray
dell 1520 wlan (the only other compromise)

even cheaper if you purchase their "holiday bundle"...$1999 and it includes black Ops, Flight Simulator, and a Sidewinder X8 mouse...very nice deal.

The display kills the deal. BTW you said you didn't believe the price for the specs I got in my sig so I've attached a photo to this post. Since I bought the system, Dell upgraded me to 8 GB ram + 500 GB drive for free and sent me a brand new factory system.

agree the laptop without the RGB isnt worth $1 imo. this Display has ruined me, i dont think i will ever be able to get another computer because of it.

Make sure to look into how warranty services are handled. Just say no to depot service.

my system has been replaced 4 times. the cpu was upgraded from an 820 to a 920 and finally to a 940xm.

my graphics cards were upgraded from dual 4870's to dual 5870's (they actually went up to 285's, but i made them downgrade me because i hate those cards).

during this time period, which has spanned about 10 months, I have constantly refused depot service without any compromises. when something breaks, they replace it. when something breaks too many times, they replace my system and usually upgrade something in order to shut me up. I love dell. If it's because i gave them a few extra dollars for the 1 year advanced warranty instead of the basic one, then i highly recommend it.

as a final note, it has all been worth it. not only have i been given over 1,000 dollars in parts upgrades for free, but the system is currently running flawlessly (and I am meticulous when it comes to finding flaws).

wow man u got incredibly lucky. systems not even close to your specs costs a lot more than that on the dell outlet currently. that's like winning the lottery.

We already had this discussion in AW subforum. The questions is whether its crossfire setup or not. If it's not, it's hardly better than this one . Btw yeah Joker went through what 3-4 m17x systems at least... if you spend that much time playing with it, hunting deals, replacing systems, dealing with Dell and such... you'll get it too. The questions is how much will you really save overall and how much time will you waste.

In both cases it's a worse deal then what you can get from Dell with coupons, EPP discounts etc.

I guess nobody remembers the $1199 M17x that the Microsoft Store was selling earlier this year?

I really have to laugh about CCFL displays on high end notebooks. Gotta love that retrotech.
