Still a decent machine for $400.

This is a STEAL price. Best deal EVER for a budget gaming laptop.
Next tier laptop that can handle what this one can gaming wise is 529$ when on sale (at least in Canada).
It can handle SWTOR, WoW, BF3 and various other top titles on medium (some high with OC).
Guide to OC this is in my sig if anyone is purchasing it.
Performance:
The CPU on the K53TA when overclocked can achieve i3-i5 performance if anyone is wondering - I used to own one.
The GPU in nVidia terms is close to a 540m. -
just out of curiosity what would be the next tier laptop?
-
Acer 3830 - 13.3"; i3; 540m; 640GB; 4GB Ram
On sale about once a month for 529$ (save -100$ included) at Staples Canada (not sure about US).
HP HP Pavilion dv6-6135DX
549$ refurbished on newegg, but it's out of stock. Same specs as the K53TA but with bluray.
Asus K53SV ...same specs as the Acer, but with an i5 and 15.6" display and runs for about 629$~.
So with the K53TA, you've basically saving 120$ at minimum when matched to the next price/spec tier unless there's another contender that I don't know about. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
is that duel graphics card? If so can it crossfire?
-
-
How can a budget gaming laptop like this have crossfire, but not my huge, expensive, m17x r3?
-
It's called asymmetrical crossfire. It uses the integrated graphics chip plus the dedicated gpu.

HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
Acer Aspire AS7750G-6645 NX.RVHAA.002 Notebook PC - Intel Core i5-2450M 2.5GHz, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, DVDRW, AMD Radeon HD 7670M, 17.3 Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com
supposedly the 7670 is exactly the same as the 6650 with basically no gains....so what was the point of even making it?....Normally rebandaged gpus at least have a little performance gain.... -
And your 6970m is probably twice as powerful as the 6750m+6620g Crossfire anyhow. -
Not bad, I'm tempted.
-
If any Canadians are interested, this "sale" is also going on at the newegg.ca as well, however it's 449$ instead of 409$, which is still a good deal compared to what's currently offered with similar specs.
The next best is still 80$ more (Acer 3830) @ Staples. -
In stock at neweggbusiness, after 15% coupon MTMK15,
the price is $357 shipped. Awesome deal. -
Would be nice to be able to get a neweggbusiness account.
-
Try your SSN in the EIN field, it worked for me.
-
-
I jumped 360 for a 6650m, even ivy + new gpu aren't gonna push it that low...?
edit:12 left in stock, I think you probably can make 40 per and cut newegg profit on ebay ... OG I want to jump on another but my family can't fit more machine
the z575 refurb or new with 1 year lenovo warranty for 80 more is nice aswell same spec though, same to be thinner? not sure -
ALSO NOTE:
Newegg business has a 15% off sale. -
How are these recertified units?
EDIT: $356.99 and most of the reviews on Newegg have been glowing about this laptop. It's definitely replacing my Vostro 1500 as a gaming laptop. -
I am calling the company I used to work for and seeing if they will give me the tax id so I can create a newegg business account... 357 is too cheap to not give it a shot...
-
-
no, I didn't try that. I will try that first. I am really close with the company I left so I am pretty sure they will give me the EIN without hesitation.
** My SS# worked... TY!
All set and ordered. Can't wait to mess around with this computer. -
See my guide on how to best optimize this machine and also visit the K53TA forum.
$357 is almost too hard to pass up as a spare laptop.
edit: aww crud, out of stock. ah well don't need another laptop sitting around. -
-
For the price you can't beat it. I owned one for a short while before deciding on the HP DV6z mainly because I wanted the 1080p screen and blu-ray player, well and faster video card.
-
In what condition are these recertified machines in? Any experience with Newegg refurbs?
-
The refurb usually look mint, but now they are oos now. so If you ask for replacement , they will refund you.
-
For $357 I am very interested. I was going to wait for Trinity but this is a hell of a deal. Can anyone point me at some reviews of this thing, specifically battery life and gaming performance? I'm tired of only getting about 2 hours with my current setup. I'm assuming the CPU will be about as strong as my 740qm and the GPU is better than my 5730?

Pretty sure you missed the deal... There are reviews everywhere, all you need to do is type k53ta in google.
-
740QM: 3627
3400M: 3019
3DMark06:
5730: 7717
6650M: 7483 -
It may or may not come back in stock , but probably you cant find it @ 357 soon.
-
I am feeling even better about my purchase... For some reason I thought the AMD Radeon HD 6650M was a integrated graphics nickname... I didn't realize it was a true discrete card... I thought it was like how they say the 6310 is the "card" for the E-series chips.
-
It is indeed a superb deal. -

3 month warranty on a K-series, I would only recommend this for someone who is very comfortable with laptop hardware or has money to burn.
I've seen (first hand) lots of probs in the K series with furbies.
My 2 cents. -
newegg typically is generous about return/replacement (now it oos, can ask for refund)
but the fact that these kind of dual gpu laptops have phonemically suck out of box performance meaning people should be a bit comfortable to toy with it .
I just realize a similar config desktop may cost as much make me happy though.
-
I was actually looking to make a cheap desktop for light gaming and ya... this is by far a cheaper solution. Simmilarly equipped desktop would be about 450-550... -
As in the thing have stink CPU performance if you leave it at stock. which will bottleneck games and some people complain they lag when web browsing ~~.
Edit: just to explain why, bcuz turbo boost doesnt work well, and people may struck with a 1.4ghz quad that just cant handle single/dual thread works. -
Any 1 got theirs shipped out yet? Mine still on order verification after 2 days ~~
Edit: just got charged, woot -

Not sure if coupon for neweggbusiness posted earlier still works, but maybe get 15% off this. Not $357 of the K53TA, but possibly $425 if coupon works:

If you missed out on this nice cheap deal:
For $130 more, another good deal that has been running for the past 6 months is a Refurb HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx Notebook - AMD Quad-Core A8-3500M 2.4GHz, Radeon 6750M, 6GB DDR3, 640GB HDD, Blu-ray, 15.6" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit $529.99.
HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx Refurbished Notebook PC - AMD Quad-Core A8-3500M 2.4GHz, 6GB DDR3, 640GB HDD, Blu-ray, 15.6 Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit at TigerDirect.com
For the extra features (eg. better gpu&cpu, bluray, bigger hdd, extra usb 3.0, greater expandable ram, better sound) the extra price is worth it IMO. -
Yeah 6750m is definitely a big improvement over the 6650m, GDDR5 vs DDR3 makes a big difference. But at 720p the 6650m manages great.
-
OMG! NEWEGG CANCELED MY ORDER!!!! I am calling them right now!
*** Apparently the CC I tried to use to order was associated with my old office address (the govt changed the street name...) and thats why they canceled it. I re-ordered it and the guy said he would issue me a new discount. They rectified the problem... Thumbs up for the Egg -
-
you can type anything in there, it doesn't matter iirc. SSN is just a myth.
-
Out of stock at newegg, but you can buy them refurbished for $456.25 here: Asus K53TA-BBR6
-
HP - 17.3" Refurbished Pavilion Laptop - 6GB Memory - 640GB Hard Drive - Steel Gray - dv7-6165us
I really want to buy a budget gaming laptop to use it for a couple of months until i have the money for a real one. Do the +100$ worth compared to the K53TA? And also i'm not so sure about refurbished laptops because they have only 3 months warranty (btw is it a global one?) and a friend is going to buy it for me in the usa and bring it to me. -
- 2GB of RAM
- 1.7" Screen Increase
- 140GB HD
- Slightly better CPU
I'd still go for the Asus. Save that extra 100$+ towards something better in the future or invest it in an SSD.
Remember, the 5400rpm drive that both the Asus and HP have is a severe bottleneck. Game load times are atrocious (especially in MMO's) and software applications will take forever to open, load and function properly.
An example is this:
SWTOR: After I was done doing a a PvP match, I would auto-reque. By the time I would load from the scoreboard back to my original location where I had taken the PvP queue, a queue that had already popped during the load time expired - 5400rpm moves at a snails pace.
So K53TA + SSD > HP Pavillion
