    What big stores usually have big back-to-school notebook sales (Circuit City, Best Buy, Office Depot, etc)? And will they be better than the 4th of July sales?

    I really need a new notebook, and I want it fairly quickly. But I can wait for a better deal (but I'd rather not wait 'till Black Friday...even though I'd probably kick myself for not waiting).

    If you need it now, get it now. Usually, notebook prices are "inflated" during those deals so you are paying about the same anyway.

    I had the same question. I mean is that usually just for the Back to School sales, or any time there is a pretty huge amount taken of the "normal" price?

    Back to school sales at Best Buy start around the beginning of August, or so. A lot of the time, though, they're package deals and not full-on sales of a certain product.

    The prices you find online will be vastly superior (Less) than what you would find at a retail outlet, assuming you don't mind not seeing it in person.

    you'll always find better deals online. buy a notebook you want and just because it's on sale. chances are you'll find a good deal for it online anyway.

    ...unless you are buying a Mac laptop. They are giving a free iPod with purchase.

    "If you’re a student, teacher, or staff member and you buy a Mac with your education discount between June 3 and September 15, 2008, you can get a free iPod touch or iPod nano after rebate."

    In general, you're probably best off finding a laptop that you're interested in, and then look around a lot. Sometimes a slightly older revision might be on sale at a retail outlet near you, or you might be able to find a good student discount through a manufacturer's online site (Apple, Lenovo, etc.). But, as has been stated before, the hype of "Back to School Savings" tends to be a little overblown.

    I dunno. I got my P-6860FX from Best Buy for $1100, and I couldn't find it for any cheaper. Not to mention Best Buy offers their reward zone...so I got another $25 in gift card from my purchase =D

    Wait till August, and shop online. You'll probably find better deals. Plus, then you won't have to deal with Circuit City's awful customer service or Best Buy's vastly overpaid Geek Squad.

    When did you buy it? I plan on buying the same laptop in August.

    Hmm, I guess I'll wait for the next refresh of the 6860 that comes out next month since it will have an updated resolution and GFX card.

    @Scrapper
    August is the money of back to school sales so wait 'till then.
