I think I will definitely swing by Best Buy after work this afternoon to get one. I called last night and they still had "one or two" left @ $525. Hopefully I get there in time. This is a steal that my wife will have to live with on the credit card for a couple of months, even though she said no way!

EDIT: I have been researching 9-cell batteries, but haven't been able to find one meant for this laptop...If I can find one I won't get it. :(

i called several bestbuys and it seems only some carry it at the $525 price point. needless to say, i went ahead and got one for 525 plus 8 dollars recylcing fees and tax which came to a total of $573. immediately after opening the unit, playing oblivion and farcry with fluidity ease my tension of whether i should keep this. for a sub 600 dollars laptop, this unit just blows the crap out of all those hps and dells with gf8400. it's amazing how such an awesome gaming unit can be tucked away waiting for notebookreview readers to snatch up. thank goodness for this forum and the wonderful members.

highly recommend other members to pick these babies up before theyre gone.

heres my opening shots of the thing.

I had the m-6864x and really miss it now - night and day difference between the 2600 and my 9500m GS. The 2600 was way better in games.

Well it's not $525 at my local BB. The closest one is 40 mins away. Not sure if I want to make that trip for $75.

hahahah i know, funny story, so me and my friend got there and i asked them for the 6862 and the guy looked it up but at first before he checked, i asked him and he looked it up but i said 6863 because i wasn't sure but i told him i saw it online and he went on the website and found it and it showed 749.99 and then he found it in the store it wasn't up for display and i asked him how much would it be? he said it should be the same as the price online but when he scanned it, it shows 524.99 his face expression was like ***? lol, while my plan was only to go there and see how much it cost and if it was true that it was for 524.99 , it was .

then out of nowhere i turn to my friend and i was like aye can you spot me? ill pay you back and hes like ***?! and he was about to , but he hit his limits on cc so im going back today and getting it with my dad and ill pay him back later , because i can't miss out on this deal , with one left on the shelf too!

I wish it came with 32 bit vista and not 64 bit regardless of the fact that it has 4 GB of RAM. Most users dont need the extra hassle of a 64 bit Vista.

EDIT: Wow your right. I shoulda looked earlier. +rep

I got one of these sweet machines for $450 tax included yesterday. But sadly I didn't really need another laptop, and yet I'm debating going back to pickup another one. :)

Edit: I did have to force them to scan the laptop for the price. They kept on using their Internal website to tell me the price was $749. :(

Edit again: Just noticed lots of these laptops are on Craigslist (**** those rip off artists), but they are advertising this laptop as having the Radeon 2600 XT, and looking at the specs page on Gateway's website it also lists the HD 2600 XT. I'm pretty sure this doesn't have the XT, but can anybody confirm?

It does? I just moved n don't have all my boxes unpacked but certain i still have all my original cd's and literature etc. How complicated would it be to swap to 32-bit? Think performance would be worse? Would you then never be able to re-upgrade to 64-bit? Cuz 64-bit is a hassel honostly w/ being incompatible w/ so many things

I don't know how bad it would be. Honestly, I haven't had any problems at all with 64-bit Vista. Most of the apps I install are 32-bit but they run fine.

well, I got mine adjusted frm $599 to $542 which was their store clearance price. They checked stock at a few other stores which were at $524 but the customer service girl asked her boss and would not pp me to the other so...only $542. still better than nothing.

Well, if you've got lots of references/rep, and are willing to pay for insured shipping + $4 gas to UPS/Fedex (stupid hurricane), I'd be willing to consider going to pickup one for you.

krazyphire, how is WinMo 6.1 working for you?

What is the upper limit (speed) on the type of processor we could throw into this bad boy?

If it was XT type would be sweat ... since only ATI XTs have the Temp Sensors.

BTW, I posted on the wrong Thread (6862 Review) ... I got mine yesterday for $525 + Tax. Thanks Slayer!

    Hi Link,

Just curious ... how is a $525 laptop "only" half of your 860TU Clevo!?!?

I am sure your M860TU will cost you easily in $2K range ... right!?!? And this Gateway M-6862 is not even close to the Clevo's power!!!

EDIT: Link what do you think M-6862 vs Clevo M762TU!?!?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

Well buddy of mine says this Mobo can do up to T7500. And in fact there some of the folks here that have already changed out their T5750 with T7500 and no problems.

But, I wonder if you can go higher than T7500 though!?!?

Well its ($525-$100)*1.06 (tax) + insured shipping = $450.5 + insured shipping. I've never shipped anything this big so I don't know the shipping price, I'll have to go check and see. Judging from a FedEx quote its around $30.

But I'm going to try to go tomorrow, pickup another one, and try to get a detailed shipping price. What's your zip?

Also has anybody played a HD video yet? 1080P? H.264? I'm wondering how well it plays.

As I've been told it would probably support up to the Socket P X9000 Intel Exteme CPU. Which is pretty good! Except that the CPU would cost more than the machine. lol :)

    Hi folks,

Q1: What kind of Warranty comes with this laptop? You know Gateway's Warranty?

Q2: With this unit phasing out ... how does the Warranty thing will work?

A1: Got mine with Best Buy warranty

A2: Covers everything including accidental spills, screen breaking, hardware malfunctions. They will replace it with a notebook of equal value, and I would think with what this is packing it would be a nice replacement! :D
