Best Buy has the Toshiba Qosmio on sale for $1350 this week. If the styling floats your boat it is a pretty good deal. Link

I saw this machine at Best Buy yesterday and it is HUGE. The extra size might be worth it for those wonderful harman/kardon speakers though . . . they are truly amazing (I never thought I would recommend a notebook partly because of its speakers
).
At any rate, great deal. $1,350 buys a great video card (Nvidia 9700M-GTS 512MB GDDR3), decent processor, lots of RAM, a fast HDD (200GB 7200RPM), and a flashy design. Oh, and those great speakers.
Thanks for the link! -
Holly cow! Look at the side view of that! Its like 6 inches thick!
-
sooooo I am wondering how the battery would do in that huge laptop...
-
yeah, but since this laptop is huge-it is not portable,so you can get something smaller and nice speakers for 60$(like logitech Z4),but,indeed,this is a nice deal!
-
It may be kind of thick but you can be assured it will NOT have any overheating issues like some other laptops. God Bless -
name other gaming laptop that overheats?
-
(If they have fixed the overheating issues, I am gunna look like a moron posting this) -

The laptop is actually so large that it won't fit in the standard Best Buy lockup cages (the metal black thing that keeps the display from getting stolen). My friends at my old store had to take one of the cages into the mobile install bay (where they install car radios and such) and put it into a vice grip to make the cage bigger. Now the laptop sits on display, but since the cage is all bent, the big fat laptop gets to rock back and forth on the shelf.
That plus it's probably the worst colored laptop I've ever seen. Some reds are good for a laptop, I would say a dark, matte red finish would be fine for something like this, but the Qosmio is freaking candy red with flames. Looks like a lollipop made for 8 year olds.
They say black is slimming. Someone should tell that to Toshiba. -
inferior to the 7811 fx even when this model is on sale and the fx is not
at 1450 you get the 9800 gts and a better cpu and a wuxga screen. all for 100$ more
forgetabout it. the 7811 fx is a deal at full price.
this thing has better speakers absolutely. i bet it is tougher.
oh and youll notice the 9700 gts while it is a 256 bit card its way inferior and much hotter than even the 8800 gts in my older model.. its why that thing has to be so thick its actaully a take on last generations 7900 gtx
it is a gamer though dont get me wrong. if the 7811 fx didnt exist it would have some purpose in life. -

allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
The hardware that they offer for the price is a really good deal. This system has two fatal flaws, though.....
1) It is a 17" gaming/entertainment notebook but it only has the WXGA+ (1440x900) display??? The same specs as the Satellite L355 that costs $700! At minimum, it needs WSXGA+ (1680x1050) and ideally would have a WUXGA (1920x1200).
2) The person(s) who designed the exterior are clearly BLIND or they were on ACID at the time! -
In addition to the Candy Red finish, I'm not too impressed on its fit and finish either. This notebook looks cheap quality-wise, and honestly I like its 15" brethren, the Qosmio F55, more.
-
The X305 is quite simply the worst looking notebook I have ever seen. Gateway FX ftw, seriously. It is by far the best buy in terms of 17" gaming notebooks atm.
-
Oh god you americans and your Gateways xD I know 3 people from my workplace that had Gateways because they were "good deals", one had a terrible screen with pixel issues and bad colours, other one GPU runs extremely hot and causes crashes, other is still working ok...for the moment. + Seriously look at all the complaints about the 7811FX on the gateway forum, there is nothing about the X305 on the toshiba forum in the way of faulty laptops.
-
A couple of things dont really apply.
Gateway is owned by acer now. Faulty notebooks in the past were made by arima and this 7811 fx series is made by foxconn. Gateway is a part of the acer marketing machine now.
The same company that makes the macbook air and one of the macbook pros.
I dont think very many 7811 fx owners got faulty machines at all when you consider how many were sold.
Nobody complains about their x305 because almost no one wants one. This model is very good. -
so much for macs and foxconn.
I agree that the 7811FX is a much better deal then this toshiba...if you can get one that is not a lemon. There are quiet a few lemons out there. -
I was looking at this yesterday. Nice notebooks for the size.
