There goes a little bit of the exclusivity of owning an Alienware. ;)

Man, I'd be pissed if I had preordered an M17x with a configuration similar to that only to see one appear in the local BestBuy for a better price... :D

I saw the G71 today at my local Best Buy store and I thought it was very nice as well. The new ASUS G51 and G71 notebooks have a 1 GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M graphics card inside of them, which appalled me to some extent. :)

Everyone should note that the G71 has a severe downclocking issue where at 82ºC the GPU basically shuts down and the only way to reset the GPU is the restart the computer. This is most likely related to the laptop's bios since it has two voltage values instead of one, so the laptop might be transitioning to the lower voltage when 82ºC is reached (this is supported by the GPU's clocks being the same before and after this glitch so it isn't really a downclocking issue).

The G51 is good though but just note that it can get up to 100ºC when playing Crysis and similar games so a laptop cooler might be necessary.

The AW at Best Buy is a watered down version of the M17x. If the configs included dual GTX 280M in SLi, now I'd buy it. :p G51 would go nicely with thermal paste.

I'm thinking about picking up the G71 myself and buying a 1920x1200 LED screen to go with it. Only trouble is the 82 degrees issue people have been having. When that's fixed, I'm all over it.

What makes owning an alienware exclusive? They used to be ultra expensive and finally have come down to reality and I am not even talking about this best buy model. Its not like your paying an extra 2 grand for a peice of junk like the acer ferrari and getting absolutely nothing from it. They are not limited production and can be bought used very easily so sourcing one is not an issue either. Not everyone prides themselves in owning one, though most of you guys seem to, nothing wrong with that back in the day I always used Alienware as the price guide for ultimate laptops lol.

Nice to hear though, with all the prices coming down, even at dells price this is on my list for my 17 inch. I could have easily waited and got one, at the time dell/alienware had nothing i wanted and i decided to go cheap budget was 1500 by now it would have easily been 2000 or more.

Low resolution or not, the initial G51 and G71 releases have too many issues to buy, they could have the (hope u get this) cable companies million eighty P resolution and theyre still not something u want.

97C on an underclocked GTX 260M, isnt so nice. The machine that does the paste is still setup for the 9800M so the paste isnt even on right, one user had only 50% coverage while another user with 99% coverage still had the same temps.
