I did a check on one website and it showed me that I could save some money from purchasing a notebook pc abroad. Currency conversion rate would be in my favor as well as lower taxes. Shipping costs would eat up part of the savings however.

Has anyone actually done this before? I am located in USA. I am not looking for a low end generic pc from China but rather a high end business class model from any number of substantial notebook pc manufacturers around the world as long as it provides international warranty support which is quite common across vendors today.

Just wondering your opinion on this.

One thing I would bear in mind is custom/tax/shipping insurance costs. That normally reduces your savings. But, if it's still cheaper, go for it!

Also, if you're travelling to another country, that would be the best time to buy. Then you won't need to pay any additional costs or worry about it being damaged in shipping.
