Dam, doesn't that make the WD passport something like 50% off?
-
Those are great deals, for External HD's.
Where did you find this?
Cin. -
I found this at another forum that I go to (maximumPC.com)
Just FYI, you have to CALL them to get these prices. The website shows normal prices, and they don't have them on display in the store. -
Cin -
How long will this last?
-
Thanks!

Cin, I have called my local Office Depot and they confirm the deals. There are also a couple others depending upon what you want. It seems many of the WD items are on sale. I am looking for a WD 1Tb and it seems to be on super sale as well.
Edit: For anyone in SoCal, there is a WD 1TB drive in Woodland Hills. -
dang, I just bought a 1TB Western Digital My Book at the Circuit City liquidation for $126
-
That's awesome...I read something about these on slickdeals.net..but was like WOW..those are great prices...almost to good to be true.
I will call my local OD first thing in the AM
You could always try and sell it on Ebay, or something!
Cin -
I was hoping that they had a Studio version with eSata, but I guess the drive itself is cheaper than buying it oem, so I can always snag a new case. It is apparently a 7.2k drive, so I would assume its a WD GreenP.
@ Arcy: Circuit City had reduced prices? Wow, I was reading that there was high speculation they would not slash them for a bit. Despite OD's sale, you still got a great deal. The internal drive is about $100 + $30 for a good case...and that has only a hd warranty. -
I don't have the link to it, as my friend at another forum posted this sale.
If you need eSATA, Take the drives out of the enclosure and buy a new enclosure that has eSATA in it. You'll void your warranty, so do it at your own risk. -
Yep, that is what I am considering. The issue is that the larger WD drives have issues with the Rosewill 80mm fan enclosure, which is the one I have been checkin out. There is a decent vantec as well, but I have seen posts of 12-20mb/s on average, so it should be doable. Next thing to consider is NTFS or Fat32+NTFS...hmm, maybe even try out that new ext system.

#1 rule of sales:
If you call the store, the employee (Who likely had no idea the price) now knows there's a killer deal, reserves 6 for himself in the back, then tells you they're out of stock when you arrive.
It happens, you never call a store, just show up and buy. -
Those are some insane prices, good find.

I picked up the Simpletech 320 gb mini. It's $99.99 at NewEgg, so I'm happy with this deal. Also picked up the Toshiba 160 GB and I may return that one.

I just got a HDD dock so I can use internal HDDs as external ones but with these prices I may as well get the whole kit.
Id grab 2 of the 500gb WD but I am turning in for the day, maybe I will see what I can do tomorrow. How long is this sale? -
Called my store and they were out of all the 500gb/1tb ones
i called a few other stores a little further away and again blanks
my server is yelling at me that it needs more space haha all the drives are in red! -

I was right next to a store today. Though I just called them and spoke to a good guy. They had none of the good ones in stock.
He told me about part of there in system code. The ones I asked him about all of them have a "3" at the end of there code meaning this is the 3rd markdown for that product. So he said its going to be very hard to find any of these items in a store as they have already been reduced 2 times in price. -
There is computer in most Office Depot either in the ink or in the PC section that you can use to check inventory. I went in and checked inventory for the list of drives in the first post. If the store has no stock, then you can check nearby stores.
Items in stock in some stores in Chicagoland area are 111325, 420340, 420205, 399305, 435010, 396855, 426055. Most stores list only 1 of each, and no more than 3 of any of the drives. They are all in the back of the store and I had to ask two employees before I convinced the third to search for the drives. -
-
However, had I called, I expect I would have ended up with no drives, now I have two
The employee I talked into searching for the drives was buying the two remaining drives left after I purchased mine. No one in the store knew about the prices until I started asking about the drives.
Notebookreview is the only reason I found out about the clearance, and I was skeptical on my way to the store of being able to find one of these bargains. -
-
Just got back from Office Depot and no drive. I guess they didn't hold to the reserve. Very disappointed in them....life is a pile of lemons, just depends what we make of them. Congrats to those who did in fact get a drive.

Hey nizzy, yes...that is what I believe happened. I was told by the manager that they would not hold sale items. This was very odd, because I was going to reserve a smaller drive at another OD and the manager said holding would be no issue. Well, good news, sort of. I just took an hour drive to a 'local' OD and picked up the WD 1TB. This manager as well held it for me. I am pleased to have saved anywhere from 100-200 bucks, but saddened at the experience with my neighborhood shop. Now onto a quick hard drive format failure, RMA, return, and then happiness. Haha, little joke.
Edit: I am fairly bored this weekend, besides the usual law homework so I will probably get a review of it up. At least it will be another review for the internal Caviar GP, which is great just alone. -
Thats too bad. I bet the guy at the store was happy you let him know about the deal haha
-
BUYER beware! This is discontinued items at OD.
-
And, thanks for the heads up!
My local OD's were sold out anyways...
Cin -
These drives are new, in box. You can't even buy OEM bare drives for the OD clearance prices. -
No luck in the OD @ Avon, CO.
-
No luck at most of them, except the Simpletech 1TB, which is like a 2 hour drive to get to the store.
-
wo0t wo0t!!!
I got the last one in Tucson, AZ 1TB version -
Anyways none of mine had them so i ended up buying this today for my server.

Firmware update it and i should be fine! Plus its got a 5 yr warranty so i like that a lot even if i had to spend more on it. Now i have 7 drives on my server haha! -
Tried this today but no luck - all sold out.

I ment TB,
but my brother went and bought a 500GB at the one on speedway, then he went to one on Ina to check their stock and phoned me
I've been looking at the ones @ walmart, 500GBs for $75-90$ But for 1TB for $70.19, I couldn't pass that up :O -
-
-
I don't really care for USB 2.0 that much, I prefer the usb/firewire combo drives. But for the price- besides that, after the warranty is up and I still feel the need for a combo port drive, I could always open it up and change the case
-
-
Am I able to get the deal if I order online, for store pickup? I really doubt it, but the 1TB drive is so tempting, and no stores around me have any in stock.
-
-
Maybe you should be informed about purchasing products yourself before you start scaring members here -
Stopped at one of the Office Depot stores that is closing and having a clearance sale. They had almost ALL of the drives on the list, and they were all marked up to full retail. "Clearance" sale price was 25% off marked price.
Grrrr....
Example is the Simpletech mini 320 gb was $159.95.
I purchased a couple of cables to go 6 ft usb Y cables for the drives I purchased last week and it solves the only problem with these drives, too short of cable.
Interesting to note that none of the inventory at the clearance store was listed on the inventory computer at a store that was staying open, and the clearance store computer would not show nearby store inventory. -
the cable is usually because if it is longer it will not receive enough power.
-
Right now I have a Simpletech mini 320 gb hooked up using the 6 ft. cable into Acer One. Only using one usb port to power it and it has worked well. No problems with file transfer and have not had to plug in the second usb plug of the Y. Drive does get a bit warm in one spot though.
CHEAP External Hard drives at Office Depot!
