CompUSA is having a Moonlight Madness event from 6-10PM in stores tonight, October 6th.

The notable thing here seems to be 20% off all unadvertised notebooks (which basically covers a lot of potential notebooks that aren't in the flyer), excepting Apple notebooks.

I called up my local CompUSA to verify and they said there weren't any other "catches" here.... so, for example, if you had your eye on a $2449 Sony Vaio SZ370, you can get it for $1959.

I'm still a little dubious about this, and I suspect that somehow there's still a catch, but if it is legit, seems like a great deal if your local CompUSA carries a notebook you're interested in.

They might be trying to clear out Yonah units.

Maybe, but according to the manager I talked to at least, this 20% off basically applies to any laptop in the store that isn't already on an advertised special. I specifically asked if it included Core 2 Duo machines like the Sony SZ370 and the Toshiba P105-9722 and they said it did, so it seems like a way to save a pretty nice chunk of change on some of the brand new Core 2 Duo machines.

I'm willing to bet they took certain systems off the floor for the sake of selling the stuff they really want to get rid of.

They didn't seem to, anything they had in stock was fair game. I went ahead and picked up a brand new Toshiba P105-S9722 for $1600.

Haven't opened it yet though, still trying to decide whether I really want it, but at 20% off I couldn't resist.

Yeah, that is the only laptop I would pick up from that store, anyways. LOL

Yeah. To some degree I could complain about some aspects of the P105, like the 4200rpm HD or that I don't like how some of the keys on the right side of the main keyboard are squished in, but yeah..... at that price I just couldn't argue with it. I figure in the worst case scenario I could still probably sell it and not really lose anything on it.

I just can't believe how I missed out on this deal by misreading the advertisement. I thought it is the usual 6pm to midnight sale & happily went to my local CompUSA at 10:30pm hoping to pick up a Vaio SZ370P/C at about $2120 after 20% off & tax added, only to arrive & see that the store was closed for the day! :( Thought I was lucky earlier in the day when I found out about the advertistment because I nearly bought 1 from ebay 2 nights ago. Oh, well.... hope such an offer comes along soon or I may just bite the bullet.... :(

Yeah, the SZ370 is the other laptop I was thinking of taking advantage of this deal with.

And I agree, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people were sort of confused/misled by the switch from "moonlight madness" (what does that even mean really?) to "midnight madness".

Yeah, that's what got me! I can't believe I could have read it & interpret it to be the "midnight madness" that they used to have. :( And earlier today, I thought that today is gonna be my lucky day!

I got a hp dv2130 there last night. It's a core 2 duo. The guy said they just got it in, so I guess they weren't just clearning out old stuff (or maybe they didn't know). It wound up being $900 for a Core 2 Duo processor with 1 gb of RAM and a 120 gb harddrive and XP Pro. Not bad......

Hope so... think they may but it will be disappointing if they have a lesser discount, such as 10% off all unadvertised laptops.

FYI, the computer I got is $799 (after rebate) at CompUSA today and tomorrow only. I just went and did a price adjustment. Just in case you're interested.....
