Damn, just wish it would have been a 14.1" and I would have been set. Still a good deal though, just too bulky for me.

That sounds like a great deal to me. Aren't Pentiums in laptops prone to overheating though? A dual-core Pentium, I'd guess, would tend to get really hot. At $399 it may not matter much. Thanks for the heads up.

/makes plans to visit BB tomorrow :)

I always hated it when BB would have a cheap computer. Brings in all the cheapskates, and they tend to smell funny. Furthermore, after you sell out in about 2 hours, everyone else who comes in thinks that you're smuggling them and selling them to your friends.

"We are out of stock" does not mean "there's a huge conspiracy that we're having and not selling you your crappy computer".

Haven't actually worked there in a while, so I can happily say I no longer give a crap.

They just keep me on the payroll for some reason and I rake in the discount. Not really though, I don't buy much stuff these days.

Pentium Dual Cores are either CoreDuos or Core2Duos. These are not Pentium D CPUs.

The T2310 in this laptop is a Coer2Duo with 1mb L2 cache labeled as "Pentium Dual Core"

I wonder why HP/Compaq would still manufacture a laptop like this with a maximum of 1gb memory? 1 gb is the decent minimum memory just to load the Vista OS. That's why these laptop are cheap... coz they are just junk.

What would you expect for $399, the best of the best?? I have a housebound friend who rarely leaves her bed. This machine would be fine for her to surf the Net and check her email, which is all she ever does with a computer anyway.

BTW, if I do buy this machine for her, it won't be running Vista (or even XP). I'll wipe the drive with DBan and install Ubuntu, for which 1gb RAM will be plenty.

@onion: thanks for the info. It's been a long time since I've bought a laptop other than a Mac, so am far behind in knowledge of processors not available from Apple. Maybe I should pay more attention. LOL

Laptop takes 2gb max. Its a misprint. We have the laptop running two 1gb sticks of ram and it works great. You have to remeber reality it not what one makes believe it is....
