Hello, all. This is my first post here. I apologize in advance if I make any mistakes.

I saw this while browsing the circular of in-store specials (for my area, at least) on instorespecials.staples.com. The circular says this item is available in-store only, so I can't post a link. (Searching for the SKU, 750553, at staples.com yields no results.)

    Compaq Presario C770US
Copied from the site and pasted:

    • Get reliable performance and mobility at a great value.
    • 15.4"
    • Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T2390
    • 2GB RAM
    • 160GB hard drive
    • SuperMulti DVD drive with LightScribe™
    • 802.11b/g wireless LAN
    • 5-in-1 card reader
    • Windows Vista™ Home Premium with Service Pack 1
    • $609.98 - $150 instant savings - $30 easy rebate = $429.98

It seems you can submit your rebate request online instead of mailing it.

Deal available August 17 -23 or while supplies last.

I recall Best Buy offered a laptop (I don't remember which brand) for $400 after rebate several weeks ago; does anyone remember that one and if so, can you compare it to the C770US?

EDIT: The same model is available at circuitcity.com for the same price (if you don't count sales tax and the costs of mailing the rebate requests) after rebate s: $510 - $50 MIR - $30 MIR (via dealnews)

Alot of us bought similar machines during Black Friday - I got my wife's C712US at Staples for $349. Nice machine for the price, Socket-P so it can be upgraded, others have said 3GB or 4GB works in it.

Strange - name and address sounds unfamiliar, and NOT a good part of town at ALL... I can't think of anyone crazy enough to open a mail-order/internet computer shop in THAT part of town....

Wanna have a peek? Google Maps has a streetview RIGHT IN FRONT of that address...

I can drive by tomorrow and take some pics, but there's NO WAY that address is a 10,000 item company!!! Looks like an old left-over gas station, converted to a tire place, or the landscaping-looking place, with trailers on the lot!!!

    Be *VERY* careful!

Site is not very professional, looks hastily put together (ie, not an Intel section, but a 'Pentium' section)
Domain reg is like 2 months old...
    No history in web.archive.org...
    almost nothing in google....

I dunno - I say caveat emptor, and a fool and his money are soon parted...

Look at the StreetView, though.... hehehehe
Looking at google maps, odd numbers would be on the North side, which is the side where the maroon pickup is, NOT where the bus is...
Looks like a trailer park or something, don't it?

    :D

    ATTENTION!!!

    DO NOT ORDER FROM TIGERCOMPUTERTECS.COM!!!

I placed an order with them and they tried to use my credit card to purchase items fraudulently. My CC company caught on and canceled the orders, but it is still a hassle.

I have tried calling Miami PD and they don't want to lift a finger. I have their address and proof that it was them!
