Paid 358 like a week and a half ago on amazon.. The day mine got delivered it dropped to 340 so they gave me the difference back. I'm sure amazon will follow soon and be at 325. That's a $33 drop in ~10 days! Edging closer and closer to $1/gb for the bighearted sata3 drives.

I can't imagine benefitting from anything faster for an average consumer. Wonder where they'll go from here. Probably will keep making needlessly fast ssds lol

Edit: fantastic drive btw. Perfect amount of space for me and plenty fast, even on my old laptops sata2 laptop

Amazing deal... I'm running low (sub-12GB free) on my 128GB SSD with games (due to the fact that stupid Steam doesn't have an option to install games to different locations each time), 256GB would have been the perfect size... Oh well, by the time I feel a need to get a larger SSD, I could easily give my wife's laptop or my desktop my old 128GB and upgrade guilt-free :D

Yeah I had to move all my steam stuff to my ssd. A 256 would be great if I could afford it.

As far as I can see, they've been bouncing around the same price range for a long time.

Besides, $1/GB may feel like a milestone, but unfortunately, that's still ridiculously expensive if you have large storage needs. Moving drives are still well over an order of magnitude more cost efficient for storage space. $1 gets you 15-20GB today.

I'm still waiting... (well, not really, I have some SSDs, but I'd like to be able to shove one into a desktop as well)

Yeah, I know all too well how much cheaper platter drives are.. $1/fb isn't exactly cheap, but considering where ssd's were a year ago, they're definitely getting cheaper..

The worst part for me is that since ssd's aren't cheap enough for a non-enthusiast to buy one, it feels like torture waiting for things to load on the computers of those who come to me for help lol

Haha I know the feeling all too well. I yearn for the days where the computers I fix for friends also have SSDs and it doesn't seem like such a crazy extravagance to the masses.

I have the 256GB M4, but if I had a choice I would take the Samsung 830. Reliability on both is excellent. But the Samsung is faster on benchmarks. Still in real world use I doubt I would see any difference. I may pay up $20 more for the Samsung, but I think whichever is cheaper is best.

I thought the M4 performed better on benchmarks than the 830, however the 830 had significantly lower power consumption over the M4. However, when it comes to SSD's, all of this is really negligible since they're all blazing fast and use far less power when compared to any mechanical drive alternative. To me when it comes to SSDs, I just care about reliability.
