Hmmm, IBMs are always attractive, especially at a half decent price. For some reason, when comparing lets say a 15" IBM (regular) to a 15.4" Dell (widescreen); the Dell is successful in seeming larger, both the lcd and the actual notebook. I don't mind 15" in IBM or the 14" HP, but the Dell 15.4" gives you the most (in regards to 'real estate') for your money.
-
You have listed that Amazon.com has the Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GC for $29.99. When I go to Amazon, the lowest price I get is $39.99.
-
rats, the price went up since yesterday, it was $40 off. sorry for any confusion.
-
Would you reccomend the IBM that is on sale at newegg for a college student? Looking for something that is durable and will last a couple years.
-
certainly, it's a fantastic buy and the R series is well built -- not quite as good as the higher priced T series but still above average.

Then, I got 2 questions,
1. What does it mean by "affiliate only"? Is the coupon code good for everyone? (basically, safe to use?). Am I violating something? ^^;
2. As you can notice, there is no specification about "Sound". Dell recommends
"PCMCIA Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS Notebook sound card [$100]". Do I have to get this? I personally do not need "fancy" sound card. But I need the regular sound when watching movie etc. If I don't choose this "SB Audigy" thing, am I not going to have sound at all?
Thank you in advance. This is great site!! -
-
Chris,
You've actually got a really great setup - especially with that video card. From what I can tell, "affiliate only" means it has to be bought through the home section, rather than business, education, or government, so the coupon should be fine (but remember - it expires on December 1, so if you want it, get it fast). The sound will work just fine.
One comment: If you think you'll need customer support, consider purchasing from another company. I have not been pleased with Dell's customer service - ever. I've found it (the customer service system in general, including the phone menus and actual representatives) to be slow, unresponsive, patronizing, and sometimes incompetent. If others have had better experience, please say something about it; I would hate for my opinion to be the only one stated. Now, if you don't think you'll need much customer service, go with Dell.
Do consider getting a replacement plan. If you need to replace your laptop in the next 2-4 years, it's a lot cheaper than buying a new one.
Regards,
Howie
