Woot.com has the 30GB Microsoft Zune. This is a one day only sale. What a deal at only $129.99 + $5 shipping. I'm very tempted. :p

Errr, its a Zune...Nobody wants one.

Not that its a bad product, but a commercial flop. I personally liked the Zune interface a lot, and the screen as well. I had some problems with the crippled wifi and such, but whatever. The iPod touch takes the best ideas from the Zune, and makes them better. Wifi for a wireless music store, tilt the screen sideways to see a movie, etc.

I personally like creatives mp3 players the best. No offense to anyone, but I hate ipods. I can't stand them. I'm not really a zune fan either but, for the price its worth considering...

I love my Zen Vision:M personally, I've had it since the week it was released, it's much better than the ipod's were, IMHO.

iPods were the best at the infancy of mp3 players. Nowadays, the ergonomics and technological gap between the competitors in the mp3 / media market are closer. Apple still has an advantage in brand recognition with their catchy and trendy advertisements and marketing.

If you want to be cool and be like everybody else, get the iPod. You will be part of the cool crowd. You can be an individual with the rest of the pre-teens and teenagers in America with iPods.

I like to stand out too. 90% of the users use Windows. Maybe you should follow me, use something other than Windows (OS X or Linux), and stand out as well, Jason :D.

Jokes (or not ) aside, this deal is pretty good. But I must say, the iPod Touch took what Zune had (crippled WiFi), and made it actually work. True web browsing, WiFi music downloads...Apple one-upped the Zune quite a lot with the iPod Touch. Even if Microsoft announces all of these features with the Zune 2, its already going to be criticized for being "late to the game".

I will say that the regular iPod (the "classic") is now a relic of bygone ages. The touch an excellent choice over its competitors (the new Creative Zen and the Archos 605 Wifi). The Zen is a bit cheaper, but the screen is smaller, it doesn't have wifi or anything, and such. The Archos has some better points, like the fact its hard drive based so you can get up to 160GB capacity (10x the iPod!), the larger screen, more video and audio codecs, drag and drop, etc. However, the device is larger, the interface isn't as slick, and you need to drop a lot of coin on extra codecs (FLAC, VOB, etc) and the web browser ($40). So it comes out to substantially more expensive, which isn't cool.

If you just do audio and have no need for a convergence web/video device, then the nano does fine, but the competitors are just as good if not better. The Clix is awesome, if low capacity, the Sansa E series is pretty solid and much less expensive, etc. I'd actually probably get the Sansa over the nano. I didn't really have a choice though, since I got the nano free as a gift.

The iPod Touch is better than the current Zune except for two things: price and storage capacity. I think those are two pretty big things though.

Huh, my brother bought a white one exactly a week ago for $200. Its a good MP3 player, I'd get ANYTHING except for an Ipod just to be different, and thats ironically Apple's slogan "Think Different" or something like that.

    But bleh to Ipods.

You'll notice they don't use the slogan "Think Different" in the iPod ads, though. ;)

Apple doesn't really use that slogan anymore (or at least, not in any of their marketing campaigns; maybe unofficially in the company, yes)...it just doesn't have a slogan at all nowadays.

the iPod touch is too expensive, apple still didn't improve the sound quality on any of their mp3 players (i guess they have too much pride). The whole design is nice though and I love the big screen. Too bad that my hate for iTunes by itself keeps me away from ever getting an iPod. I'm leaning toward the 16GB Creative Zen (has a 2.5 inch screen, which is pretty big, excluding the iPhone, no excuse me iTouch, w/e). The new Sandisk View is also one i'm considering, but dunno yet.

Not sure, but creative only makes audio stuff, so I imagine the Zen would be excellent sound quality wise.

The Zen Vision:M has astounding audio quality. I absolutely love it compared to my roommate's Zune.

all the people i know in the 'cool, trendy' crowd have mac laptops. however, a 30gb mp3 player at $130 or an 80gb ipod at $250 makes feel i'd rather have the extra 50gb for less than twice the cost. do other mp3/video players have better specs? definitely. however, my music/video is only as good as the docking player/head phones/converting i do and then limited to the 320x240 screen. tagging new albums with cover art takes about 3 seconds for new albums and i can rip dvd's straight to mp4. very convenient. i've checked out ipod and non-ipod and went with an 80gb ipod video. and i hate apple products. i guess there's a first time for everything.
