-
Man, so tempting. I got my check today. Let's see how much I can save for this drive.
Chaz, I hate you. -

I updated the original post with another deal - Seagate 500GB 7200RPM 2.5" for $89.99 shipped.
-
Same prices at Amazon as well, in case you like them better than Newegg.
-
Well, this sucks. I just paid $139.99 for this exact hard drive (Western Digital WD6400BEVT) at Newegg on the 17th of November. I wonder if they'll price match the difference...

The Hitachi TravelStar 500GB 7,200rpm notebook HDD deal is back on again for $79.99 (with Free Shipping) at Newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145275
Good luck to anyone still wanting to buy it.
Edit: Just found that Forte has posted in the Accessories section before I do in this thread. -
-
I tried calling for a price match, but they dont answer sent them an email. Crossing fingers.
-
Man, that Hitachi is a killer deal!
Wished I didn't have to buy my Momentus 7200.4 so soon. -
-
Man, i am on torn.
I currently have 5400rpm 320GB.
Should I go for the 7200rpm 500GB and the increased performance?
Or would I be happy with the 5400 640GB with double the space.
Is Hitachi better than WD? (Quieter? Reliable?)
By the time I decide the deal maybe a goner! -

Which one is better? the Seagate or Hitachi?
-
Newegg cashback has expired, but you can still grab cashback at ebates.

In general, WD and Hitachi are both about equal, I'd say. -
I just bought the Hitachi Travelstar today, hope it is a good drive.... does anyone here gets it and face any problems ?

Probably not. If you absolutely want the best, sure, go for it. But if your current HDD is't giving you problems and there's no issue with loading times, you're fine.
-
Nooo! The Hitachi deal is deactivated!
There go my upgrade plans down the gutter! -
I wish I could, I have a 160GB and I am not allowed to upgrade it
(I get a fine)
-
-
but was looking forward to Hitachi one only!
Heard quite a few probs regarding seagate,
but some seagates are issue-free!
Even if I order, I have no way of knowing which one of the two I'll end up with! -

I updated the original post - only the Seagate 2.5" 500GB 7200RPM deal remains.
Still a good drive though. Attached is an HDTune result:Attached Files:

Judging from the 7k500 thread, I'm really beginning to regret not getting in on it. Kept waiting to see if something else would come up. -

so far these are very impressive imo. i will run some tests on them tomm and see how well they are really performing. they are quiet with little to no vibrations and i can see a difference in certain areas over the wd's

you you dont hear head parking clack clack clack as reported on the other thread. also one person said keeps them awake at night due to the hum.
-
i have used 3 of them and i do not hear any noise and no humming at all. i have 3 others to still test though
-

thanks, that's great to hear. patiently awaiting your additional expert impressions of the drive. may i ask what on earth do you do with 6 drives? lol.
