^^ Yes, but keys work as full installs too with the usual hacks.
AFAIK, you can do the following. Install it, and dont activate.
Then REINSTALL and now the upgrade will work.

^^ Nice ... so you did a full install on a bare HDD and it took the activation codes with no tricks ?

i never understood how people could get a full install from upgrades. Isn't that kind of the point to not be able to do that with an upgrade version?

You cant do a clean install and use the upgrade key, it wont work. You have to do a clean install and then upgrade that way for the key to work.

Wrong - you can do a clean install using an upgrade disk, with a simple workaround.

I am not sure if this falls under the category of hack, but I was successfully able to boot Windows XP and 7 on my EEE via an upgrade. I created a partition and copied the EEE factory ISO to it and installed it until near the last step that presented an error. From there I used the Win 7 Home Premium DVD and installed on to the same partition and everything has been great. I am slowly migrating over from XP, but now I get to mess around with 7.

Or did you have to enter your email twice, to get two links ?

You can still pick up W7 Pro for $30 on theultimatesteal.com. (And if you used Win741 before you can reuse your .edu address a second time there.)

EDIT: And given that 741 is redirecting to TUS with price of $65 I'd pick one up before they raise the price!
EDIT2: While I was at it I tried adding Office to my cart to see if it would let me have second copy after having already got one last year and it did! Not really sure why anyone would want to get 2007 with 2010 around the corner, but thought it was worth noting. Maybe they reset their databases at the beginning of the year?

Actually that's incorrect. Here are the instructions I used as I did a custom (clean) install and didn't realize I'd bought an upgrade version from them until after I'd been running it a week or so.

After performing the clean install, ensure that there are no Windows Updates pending that would require a system reboot. (You'll see an orange shield icon next to Shutdown in the Start Menu if this is the case).

Then, open regedit.exe with Start Menu Search and navigate to:

    HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/

Change MediaBootInstall from "1" to "0".

Open the Start Menu again and type cmd to display a shortcut to the Command Line utility. Right-click this shortcut and choose "Run as administrator." Handle the UAC prompt.

In the command line window, type: slmgr /rearm

Then tap ENTER, close the command line window and reboot. When Windows 7 reboots, run the Activate Windows utility, type in your product key and activate windows.
