    DELL Studio 15- $649
Jet Black, Windows Vista Home Premium, 2.0GHz Intel T5800, 15.4" WXGA LED, 3GB RAM, 320GB Hard Drive, Intel 4500MHD graphics, DVD RW, Dell 1397-G wireless, Webcam and 6-cell Battery.

    LINK- http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&oc=DNDORX2

***Note- originally posted this configuration for $574. Dell has apparently upped the price to $649, reducing the instant discount from $235 to $170! :(

Still a very good deal at $649, though....but sneaky of them to modify the deal!!!

Here's another configuration for $649, same as above except the hard drive is 250GB instead of 320GB; however, the Intel 5100AGN wireless card AND 15-months of McAfee (or Norton or Trend Micro) Security is included. After the jump, the price will initially show $724- select the Jet Black exterior to drop price to $649- http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dndora7&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&m_2=PFLXP&mo=2~PFLXP&i_m_2:pFLXP=1313&kc=productdetails~laptop-studio-1537

Wow that's quite a good price. It would be a good machine for someone who want to surf the net and work with office suites I think

Yes. I'd prefer dedicated graphics, but this would do very nicely for most. Good deal. Would recommend.

The 256mb ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3450 can be added for $75- very reasonably priced upgrade, IMO.

Hey, everyone... what is the difference between integrated graphics, and "dedicated?" I mean, it's a difference of graphics card, but if someone doesn't really play advanced games that would need such a graphics card, is there any reason to go for the better graphics? What sort of difference, if any, is there?

    Thanks.

It's an excellent deal. It almost makes the cheaper in theory Inspiron redundant.

If you have no plans on playing games then integrated would be appropriate for your use.

Integrated graphics processors (Intel GMA 4500MHD, for example) use a portion of the system memory (RAM). Dedicated graphics cards have the processor AND specific video memory located together.

The memory included on a dedicated graphics card is typically faster than regular system memory/RAM. For instance, many GPUs utilize DDR3 video memory while the system uses slower DDR2. As a result, the memory on-board the graphics card is much accessed and utilized much faster than the main system memory can be by an integrated GPU. Dedicated GPUs usually have more powerful graphics cores than integrated GPUs, which is the other primary factor in their superior performance.

The most modern Integrated GPUs (Intel GMA 4500MHD, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3100/3200) have similar capabilities to the entry level dedicated graphics cards from even one year ago. They will serve the needs of most non-gamers. If you plan to go with integrated graphics, I recommend choosing a 64-bit version of Vista and 4GB to go with it! Since the integrated graphics will share your RAM with the rest of the system, you want to be sure you have plenty of it available.

Graphics cards use GDDR which is different than regular DDR.
