I've been on the fence on this one. But I just can't bring myself to purchase a G1 tech.

I would have no probs whatsoever with this... I have used several ssds over the past few years and have never experiences any slowing whatsoever in performance. There are also programs to do exactly what TRIM does manually if you look around.

Kicking myself for not getting this the first time this deal came around last week. Went ahead and pulled the trigger, doubt prices will come down below $2/GB for a drive of this quality until Q4 when Intel ups the ante with G3's.

I can get by without TRIM using AS freespace cleaner with FF checked to maintain performance.

Bad news if this is true.. Makes me hate Apple more

All that wasted on iPads that no one is going to buy.

I really wanted to get this, but I just bought my OCZ Agility 2 weeks ago..
Budget kinda tight right now :(

Didn't see anyone mention this... there is a firmware update for these to improve performance. Unfortunately, TRIM support is only added in the firmware for the 34nm drives and I believe these are the 50nm (though there is an update for these as well).

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18363

Whatever. I bought one anyway... it fit my budget better than any other 80gb ssd. And if i understand correctly the slowdown issues resolved by TRIM predominantly affect write speed, not read speed (if that wrong, by all means clarify)

jut fyi, as a manufacturer moves to a smaller process tech, it gets cheaper to produce devices..
All other issues being equal, it will cost Intel less to manufacture a 34nm device than a 50nm device. This has no connection whatsoever to the quality of the device itself.

Might go lower if they can't blow them out quickly before the G3's are released. Depends on how many G1's are still in the distribution chain.

for those who want to know this is NOT a rebrand, It's an actual intel G1 SSD inside a Dane what ever 2.5inch encloser. These are amazing I'm using one on my i7 desktop and wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

    G1? yes, Slow, NO!

Love the waiting game...there are some who have been waiting for years now. There will always be something bigger and better on the horizon.

Burden of knowledge xD. I already bought one of these (this very deal) a week ago and even with it installed and running great, I'm still gonna cringe when those G3's come out and these drop even more in price =\

It makes more sense to play the waiting game for a first generation product. SSDs might be on their second generation but there are still some kinks to fix.

And you think they will all be fixed on the third generation and we will have no new generations. Marketing 101, never sell a product that is perfect so that you can sell the new model for more.

Got mine in the mail today and installed Windows on it. Gets a 7.7 WEI disk score. The X-18m comes installed in the 2.5" case, a 64mb usb stick with a copy of Acronis easy migrate and a usb 2.0 external HDD enclosure.
