Considering that ssd will be a newer TRIM capable ssd set up and ready to go the open market price for the ssd alone wil be about $400-500 which means u r getting the rest of the system for 2-349.....

Surely all of these reviews are heavily bias because of the extremely high MSRP. At $750 the Adamo is getting into the same range as plastic netbooks. I am concerned about the long term SSD issues, Trim, battery life, etc. But, several of these are always concerns on a lightweight machine.

    I'm going to try one..........Pearl :D

    Macbook Pro 13, Lenovo S-12, formerly X31, T42P, etc.

I wonder how hard it would be to put one of those integrated 3g cards in? Processor upgrades?

only because it was a netbook coming in at Vaio Z / Air prices.

look at the specs. it's basically a netbook with poor battery performance...all compromised to get a formfactor that they thought people might want. the mental disconnect seems to be that they thought people would want to buy a poor-performing laptop for $2000 just because it's thin. Maybe appealing to potential Apple buyers without realizing that Apple can do that because their devices aren't packing 1GHz processors and integrated graphics.

in the PC space, $2000 gets you blazing performance AND decent battery life. the Adamo nets you neither. frankly, I'd get a netbook, even with this at $800. the non-replaceable battery, short battery life and integrated graphics should all be deal-breakers for anyone considering spending $800 on a computer.

be smart, people. this is a $500 computer that is *still* overpriced.

I doubt it has a slot for a 3G card, if it isn't offered as an option...unless you want to replace your WiFi card with one.

And I'm pretty sure the ULV Core 2 Duo CPU's are soldered on, not socketed.

Show me one netbook with 128GB ssd for the price you are giving. Also this is a 13" laptop not 10". Also CULV performs much better than those ATOM CPUs. Also This is made of metal not cracking plastic. Also it looks much better than any netbook you may get for $500. 128GB SSD itself is a $300 part. Replace the SSD with a cheap 30GB ssd board and it becomes a $600 laptop after that.

By the way this one has a backlit keyboard also.

ULV C2D will outperform ATOMs, celerons and single core ULV CPUs any day of the week. And it is soldered you are right but if you want a powerful machine get the big brother m15x or m17x. M11x has the even worse CPUs and with an SSD upgrade you are looking at somehting alot more expensive. Also that one has a 11" screen.

I just can't believe this thing can't pull 3 hours with ULV processor and a SSD. $500 CULV laptops can do that. I won't call it over priced because that is the whole point of "premium" notebook, but even at half price it's hard to justify it for the average consumer.

I've been thinking about getting a thin, stylish notebook with a killer screen and a fast SSD but I don't know if this screen is "killer" or how stylish it will be with a USB modem sticking out of it. There is an option for integrated 3g, it should be upgradeable, just how hard it will be is the question.

    seriously?

Dell Mini 10V or EeePC + Crucial 128GB SSD = $600. sell the 250GB HDD that comes standard with this unit and you're around $550. or throw it in an external enclosure and enjoy your new external HDD. and you're still $300 under the price of this Adamo.

Performance increase of this CULV over the Atom is marginal because of the other disappointing specs. and at the cost of heavy battery life.

with that, you have a machine with comparable performance to this Adamo, but with 7-10 hours of battery life (as opposed to 2.5 here) and a lighter machine (3-4lbs instead of 4-4.5lbs). and a replaceable, long-lasting battery.

I don't see how you can justify the $300 price premium. The biggest point of this form-factor is portable use. with a battery lasting less than 2 hours with any real use at all...and no way to increase or improve on the battery thanks to it being built-in...you're purchasing something that LOOKS like it should be portable, but it actually tethered to a wall most of the time.

    FAIL.

Now...if it got 6-8 hours of battery life and a decent GPU solution, we could have had a meaningful discussion. But...we can't.

don't forget, Netbooks come in 12.1" too.

Posters in the Adamo owners lounge are reporting between 3.5-5 hours for battery life but are saying it takes 4 to recharge. I can get by on that, the reviews that reported 2.5 hours were of pre-production models.

12.1" netbooks are close to $500 and the cheapest 128GB SSD ~$300. They're also still all plastic and closer to 3.5lb. I had a 10.1" MSI Wind and while tiny, cheap, and decent enough battery life...it couldn't do Excel or the other tasks I wanted of it simply b/c of the screen size/resolution. I've come to the conclusion I really don't need tremendous processing power but 2-3hrs battery life are plenty. I have a quad core desktop, Revo nettop, Mac Mini, 2 netbooks, old 1.6/1.7ghz pentium m dell/gateway laptops and 2 work machines. If it weren't for my new company giving me a terrible Thinkpad R51 laptop, I probably wouldn't need another machine. I'm doing a PT MBA so having something for class is the primary concern. Any and all heavy lifting is done from home.

Thinkpad Edge, HP dm3, et al are all in the same price/performance range and don't have the construction quality the Adamo has.

Lol that is just retarded. A 1.2Ghz Core 2 will stomp all over a 1.6Ghz Atom even with the second core disabled.

i have an msi wind and had an adamo and you cant even come close to comparing them. i only sent it back because the price drop happened 3 days after it arrived and they wouldn't credit back the difference.

all aluminum chassis at slightly over a half an inch. if you don't understand why then you haven't seen one. the battery life is great considering how small this machine is.you have to hold it in your hand to appreciate how thin it is. not to mention it blows the doors off of a netbook even when mine is plugged in and OC'd.

the screen was great, the SSD fast and i had no complaints whatsoever with the desire model.

i was about to reorder mine for twice this price(desire model) but the M11x debuted and i decided to try it out. if i don't like it you can bet i'm buying the adamo again.

as for upgrades, you can swap the HDD, wireless, bluetooth and mobile cards out. the cpu and memory are soldered on.

What a shame that the battery life sucks so much... maybe next time..

I want an honest 5-6 hours... probably a claimed 8-9 hours in a laptop like this.

OK, so it looks fairly simple to install the 3G module, wonder if it has a GPS locator integrated in the module like so many of the latest 3G devices? I would like to occasionally use it with MS Streets and Trips. I think for the price this is the ideal take anywhere PC. No, you are not going to game on it but who would want to game on a 13" screen? I have a gaming laptop but am not comfortable taking it anywhere for casual use like what this one is for. I wouldn't be uncomfortable opening this anywhere keeping up with web logs, news, surfing the net, researching and trading stocks, etc.

As far as battery life goes, I will be happy with 3-5 hours for the above usage patterns which is consistent with what users are reporting in the Adamo owners lounge. Also the repetitive knocking of battery life seems trollish or just plain ignorant of the laws of thermodynamics.(and then they have the nerve to complain that it doesnt have a "decent" GPU) Sheesh, it's a half inch thick with a killer screen, fast SSD, light and did I say it was a half inch thick? The battery alone already accounts for 40% of the Adamo's overall weight.

dont know if the coupon is applied to the Sony Z series. I'd rather get the Z series for $200 if the coupon works on the sony
