They have a "blowout" sale for just a day or two and I wanted to see if this looked like a decent deal.

Skylake Alienwares have major heatsink issues. So be prepared for extremely high temps. I would say it's solid if it was Kaby Lake, but Skylake is worrying if you aren't willing to repaste and repad on your own.

If you're comfortable sending it to @iunlock it'll be fine.

I'd take the 1070/1080p model solely because the screen is IPS

Is it a good deal though? How much better is a I7-7700 vs the I7-6700?

I honestly wont have time to do any work myself on a laptop and need it ready to go.

It seems that you're clearly in the market for a new computer. Why not fill out the What Notebook Should I Buy? form instead of repeatedly making threads asking if a certain product is a "good deal?"

Because I'm looking for a good deal. Some of the ones posted when I did a What Notebook should I buy were not based on how good the deal is but on personal preferences within the given price range. I'm looking for a bit of both (value and a good price) so I'm hunting deals online hoping to find something I can jump on.

The 1440p TN panel is like literally the best TN panel on the entire laptop market. I know you hate TN, but in this case almost every spec is better on the 1440p 120Hz TN except for the fact that it is TN (so colors are at least a bit worse). But the viewing angles are still extremely good and the colors only distort from below. The base level IPS panel is mostly reviewed as not all that impressive, and the response times for gaming are terrible in comparison.

Imo, it's literally overwhelmingly better for most people, I'd advise you to try and see a really nice TN panel in person. If you haven't seen it in person I don't think it's fair to judge it so overwhelmingly harshly.

Because for example this panel stinks: https://www.amazon.com/AOC-G2460PQU-Ultimate-Performance-Professional/dp/B00HY7PAUC

And if it was like that I'd agree with you, but it's more like this panel: http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-s2417dg-monitor/pd which is really really good. It legitimately looks better from most angles than my 100 dollar IPS AOC i2367f.

Posting in that section will be able to find you a better fit. Then you can watch those models for sales if you want.

Many of the best deals right now are walking into Microcenter if you have one near you.

GT62 is an option but build quality is MUCH lower than the AW17

The GT73VR has worse flex than the GT62VR lol. But yeah it's worse than an AW, those are the toughest on the market. But 1500 for those specs is a great deal @Morpheus1 and unlike Alienware MSI has been more consistent with cooling in their GT series units.

Yup - though the GT series is oddly loud from what I've been told. Probably the pastejob isn't that great and they just fix it by ramping up fan speed.

Good tip. I walked into one today and took a look. So many hard decisions.
