spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
I got two words for all: "Best Deal"
-
fantastic.
-
Wow...Great deal! Graphic card is not too bad either...Not the best, but can play all games out right now. Good price for those that need the processor.
-
Yes but it gets too hot...
-
Great to see the prices already dropping.. Had it the option to upgrade to a 4850/70 I'd be all over it but the 4670 just won't cut the mustard for me.
-
I am so temped to go with this rather than the W500, considering that dam Lenovo upped the price and lowered the coupon code's effect from 15 to 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-

At that resolution (1680x945), the 4670 (aka OC'd 4650) is a very capable card. But I, too, am worried about the heat issues in this chassis, considering some previous owners complained of heat/throttling. Now, toss in a 45w CPU that is still using a shared GPU/CPU fan.....

lol, agreed. For the price, this is a great system. I've used and setup some Studio 17's in the past, and I really like the look, fit and finish of them, and for a 17" notebook they are relatively light (~7lbs w/ 6-cell battery). the Studio 16 is like a tighter, leaner mildly more plush 17. I do prefer the extra screen real estate and cooling of the 17, though.
-
This is really good deal.
-
It sure is. I give it the peli_kan FOTM seal of approval.
-
I cant tell, but it is backlit KB>?
-
-
as standard? This model in particular, does it have it??
-
backlit keyboard is stanard for studio xps laptops.
-
Does anybody have benchmarks that compare the i7 1.6GHz vs a 2.5/2.6GHz C2D?
I'm not sure how the i7 would stack up because the turboboost only affects single threaded applications. -
Turbo boost doesn't only affect single threaded applications. The 720QM will overclock automatically to 2.4GHz when using 2 cores and 2.8GHz when using 1 core. It should perform similarly or better compared to the more expensive C2Ds below 2.6GHz but perform slightly less in dual core optimized programs against those higher (such as the T9550, T9600, T9800, and T9900).
-
Well, in theory, if running two separate threads, if HT is on, it could run 2 threads on 1 core at 2.8 (theory, have got no confirmation on this...yet)
-
2 cores at 2.4GHz will be better than 1 core at 2.8GHz + HT.
-
great price for the package, but let's be real: most of us need 1920x1080...or would at least like it to be an option. C'mon, Dell!
-
-
For 250!!!!
That is a HUGE up! -
Yeah it is a costly upgrade, a much nicer larger LCD but more battery drain and a big price tag
-
but now that I look at this thread title, it may have been a similar Dell thread here...
anyway, $250 is still a slap in the face. I see Dell is gouging on the memory too.
edit: yea, the thread I was thinking of in here was featuring a Dell Studio 16 (not an XPS). -
Pretty much all companies gouge on upgrades...
-
-
-
display does not fall under the everything I can go stock category
-
but it is a gouged expense. which was the point anyway.
but carry on. -
***This deal is still active...wow!!!
Still *tempting*...
Cin... -
Me wants!!!
In fact I am getting this. -
Its to bad they don't include the RGBLED screen or bluray? Then it would be a kick a$$ deal!!!
Sucks to that systems have EDD's of 11-20. All because of the i7 Processor ): -
I would get the RGB screen.
-
Got it. Proud (future) owner of one...grrr Cin, you got me with this one
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
I think the RGBLED is pushing back the EDD even moreso than the i7 atm.
-
I'm so happy you finally ordered! You will have yourself one fine lappy soon!
(Proud to have made someone happy today)!

What's the EXP. on this deal? I bet it expires before the 22nd...
-
The Deal is still working. Just checked out today.
http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/core_i7_systems/fs.aspx?refid=core_i7_systems&s=dhs&cs=19
Pulled the trigger yesterday. -
same price in the uk, in pounds
-
As usual...lol
In fact I found a better deal, if you go thru the EPP only, you get it for $1300 with a 500GB 7200RPM, X-Fi audio, 2 years warranty, BT included...dang, why didnt I grab that one? -
that one has a tray loading optical drive, no $100 gift card so it is not a better deal overall.
-
No studio XPS has a tray loading they are all slot load, and whats the dif?
-
guys is this laptop light enough to put on your lap.
will it heat up and burn my you know what.... -
is this a good deal. i dont understand the language on the screen. i mean what is rgb? is the screen in the deal not good enough for say lotro?
-
RGB LED vs WLED.
It means that the first uses LEDs that are Red, Green and Blue, while the second uses White LEDs to backlit the LCD.
Basically the RGBLED is one of the best screens out there. -
its 7 lbs right. i am typing on a xps m1730 and that is how many pounds? anyone know off the top of their head?
-
i'm rather confused.. If I equally spec a studio xps with a core i7 using the deal that is posted here (through Cin) with an EPP studio xps core i7 they are both around the same price ($2000, give or take a few bucks, for the deal i used). Basically, the deal in here gets me a 100$ gift card, while the EPP deal gets me a 3 year warranty, so each one has its pros n cons. I read here that you can match the deal with the gift card in EPP, what doea that exactly mean? Can i configure the deal i got in EPP with the 3 year warranty, and then persuade them to add the 100$ gift card to it?
