Yeah. And hopefully the Quad Cores won't be too gimped this time around for laptops in the name of energy efficiency and heat output.

well good luck! M15x is excellent... Enjoy!

I don`t know about PCSX2 though because i never tried it.
SB will be perfect with Dolphin Emu because the new processors have big speed boosts. Like the Core i7 2720QM which will probably be "equal" to I7 Q720M today, get a speed boost from 2.8 to 3.3 GHz. And on top of that 15% better hertz efficiency.
I have a I7 Q720M and my computer get totally raped when playing some Wii games -
Does anybody have information on what laptops Asus or Republic of Gamers plans on releasing with Sandy Bridge?

I want to buy an Asus G73 model but I'm very conflicted right now as with black Friday/cyber Monday coming up it would be the best time to buy a laptop for my December birthday/Christmas. However the release of Sandy Bridge (lol) is only a month after immediately diminishing the worth of my would new laptop.
The question I'm asking is whether I should go ahead with buying the G73JW or wait it out until Sandy Bridge? What deals will I be able to get on the G73JW, and what would I be losing out of If I didn't wait?
Will battery life improve(enough to matter)? Will there be a new Asus G7XXX model coming out as the design, cooling, and noise are all huge pluses.
What do you guys think? -

I think you should fill out the FAQ since any benefits depends on what exactly you're using the notebook for.

well if a new G7xxx model comes out, it won't be out until at least summer (but more like fall/winter) 2011

Doesn't matter what he'll use it for?
I think all the important points he touched on will be addressed with SB. -
I am going to get an Asus G73JW laptop but I don't know what model I want as I can't find them all and compare them. If anybody knew wha all the different G73JW choices are that would be great.
Things I don't need: Blu-Ray
3D -
As with most electronics, get what you need, when you need it. There will always be something better around the corner, and a price drop shortly after you buy it.
As for heat, sound and design, asus just redesigned the g73/g53. They probably won't change that for awhile. And the ambient sound is really low, the temps are crazy low for a gaming laptop (seriously, even the g73jh gets, on average, ONLY to 85C. Which is crazy low for a gaming card!). -

i understand that the purchase of a new $1100 - 1700 laptop can be a bit daunting, especially when considering a model that seemingly has a few various flavors in the marketplace.
however, you've created at least 10 new threads in the past few days asking the same question(s), several are copy / pastes of your earlier threads. it would serve you (and others) much better to either continue your line of questioning in a single thread, or to search...because most of your questions have been addressed and answered in other threads. i know this because i'm facing the same decision right now and the data on the various models of the g73 / g53 are available here and on various retailer/reseller sites. you might have to do a little bit of digging, but not much.
good luck with your research and decision. -
Another consideration is ease of upgrading. The G53 is not nearly as easy to do upgrades on (compared to the G73) because there is no bottom panel. You have to remove the keyboard and palm rest to get to the hard drives and ram, after removing a whole bunch of screws. Not fun or easy. The G73 has a bottom access panel and everything is easy to get to.
And personally, for 1920x1080 I would want the larger screen, especially for gaming. -

Please do not create multiple threads about choosing a laptop. You already have crossposted between forums ( 1, 2). I have merged your other two threads in the ASUS forum into one: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/533836-asus-g73jw-g53jw.html

I'm going to buy an Asus G73JW-A1 and was wondering if anybody knows about any black Friday or cyber monday deals that it will have?
-
I haven't heard anything (and ive been watching because I'm building my wife a computer), but I would keep a close eye on newegg, amazon, & tigerdirect. They are probably the most likely to offer a discount. Make sure you are familiar with the current price so you know when you see a deal. I think the best I've seen is $1450 for the DVD non-blu ray JW. Also Gentech, Btotech, and xoticpc might offer something. I doubt they would lower their prices, but the might throw in a free upgrade or repaste. When you spot a deal you like be ready to jump, BF sales change every hour at some places. I just bought 4gb of DDR 3 1600 for $50, which I thought was outstanding, today it is $45. When you do buy, don't have any regrets, no matter what you do, it will be cheaper in a few months. Just buy and be happy. Still you have your best chance of snagging a great deal in the next week. Let us know what you find.

I plan on buying the Asus G73JW model but was wondering where the best place to buy it was. I was thinking of buynig this Custom Laptops, Gaming Notebooks, Custom Gaming Laptops | XOTIC PC from xoticpc as removing the blu-ray would chip of 75 dollars (most places wont let you customize it), but was wondering what other people thought.
EDIT: Iam also considering the version with the smaller screen which i customized to be exactly the same in everything but screen size: http://www.xoticpc.com/shopping_cart_show.php?wconfigure=yes
EDIT: I think the links may not work just know that I'm considering either the Asus G73JW-A1 or the Asus G53JW-A1
1)Is the customer service from xoticpc good (I heard that Asus' is terrible)?
2)Do I lose the warranties from Asus because I'm buying a model that has been opened up and messed with?
3)Do most people think xoticpc is a good and reliable seller? I don't want to end up with a broken laptop and have problems with getting it fixed.
4)Also xoticpc has several options for customizing wifi options... what do these do and is it worth it(will there be a noticable speed increase to internet connection)?
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions -
Hey Boomcrafterr
I bought the Asus G73JW-XT1 from Tigerdirect for $1499 - Look at the differences in specs etc which is best suited for you.
What is your budget? I think the majority of us that bought the G73 looked at the G53 as well. It all comes down to budget and if you want/need a 17" compared to a 15".
There are other threads about the differences between the two models. Please remember that with the G53 there have been delays from Asus so there is currently a shortage on these notebooks.
I am answering these questions from research and personal experience due to the fact that I purchased my laptop from Tigerdirect as Xoticpc did not stock this model.
1) I spoke with one of their sales advisors online and the gent was very informative and friendly, I feel that they will go the extra mile for their clients.
2) No, Xoticpc and other distributers are certified and them installing hardware will not viod your warranty.
3)From what I have read they seem very reliable. Please remember that your warranty will be held by Asus, so if anything does break down you would have to send it to them not exoticpc.
4) I looked at upgrading the wireless as well, I did not end up going for it, what you need to remember is that you have to be running a wireless N network to utilise having a 2nd antenna anyway, so again it comes down to needs and $$$. -
1)Is the customer service from xoticpc good (I heard that Asus' is terrible)?
Excellent from my experience
2)Do I lose the warranties from Asus because I'm buying a model that has been opened up and messed with?
No, they are authorized by Asus to do mods
3)Do most people think xoticpc is a good and reliable seller? I don't want to end up with a broken laptop and have problems with getting it fixed.
Very good and you will have your own contact there to talk to about order, questions, warranty, etc
4)Also xoticpc has several options for customizing wifi options... what do these do and is it worth it(will there be a noticable speed increase to internet connection)?
At this point in Wifi, you probably won't notice, but in the future you will. 802.11N router support on upgrades....6200 is 2 antenna, 6300 is 3, and Wimax is a service. -
I'm trying to decide between two versions of the Asus G73JW

The only difference I can spot is the warranty but isn't one year enough as any problems the laptop has should have shown themselves by then.
By the way if I didn't mention it already this is from xoticpc. -
Does power notebook have black Friday deals? I know xoticpc does.

Does anybody know?

making multiple threads is against forum policy
and the answer is no. -
Your other thread has been deleted.
If they don't, contact them and see if they can get you other discounts. Resellers like Powernotebooks, xoticpc etc are known for their customer service and it never hurts to ask. -

I have been looking around for laptops that are good at gaming, and came across the Asus G53JW which seems like very good bang for your buck, and also seems like it will last for a long time.
I'm wondering if anybody can recommend and other laptops with similar specs, but with longer battery.
Things this Laptop has to do!!!!!!!!
1)Last long, I plan on having this laptop for a long time, at least 4 years, if it could not end up as a piece of _______ that would be great(I don't expect it to run things on full settings)
2)Decent Battery life(long enough for college lectures)
3)Below $15,000 -
I was thinking HP or Sager were also possibilities.
-
You're never going to get good battery life with those specs, whichever manufacturer you go for.
-
Ok forget I mentioned battery life can anybody recommend anything similar? Maybe less pricey?
-
High end processor and high in video card will usually equal under 3 hours of battery life(gaming laptop). If you need anything over two hours your best bet might be buying an extra battery.
I'm not sure what your overall budget is but maybe buy like the Asus G73 Best Buy model for $1200 and pick up a one year or so old laptop off craigslist or ebay for few hundred bucks for dragging around to classes(or a new/refurb basic laptop). You'll have about $1500 invested. Plus the laptop your lugging around is cheap enough that if you drop it or something else happens with it your not going to care as much.
