I have a dell xps 1730 with one 250 gb 7200 rpm hard drive and 2 gigs of ram when I ordered it from dell

I wish to buy another hard drive and raid 0 it.

I also wish to buy more ram and swap dells out for memory for 4 gb of my own

will these items work fine for doing that?

    Which memory do I get

    The PC6400

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145598

    PC5300

What is the maximum memory the dell 1730 xps supports?

Will this hard drive work for raid 0?

I know on the dell order it says the hard drive has a 250G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive . Is it SATA 3.0Gb/s? I know it says it has a fall sensor. Will this work in raid 0 with any other hard drive?

Will this hard drive work fine in raid 0 with the dell stock one?

The PC6400 Ram won't do any difference due to the Max Bus of 667Mhz. As for the Max Memory It's 8GB! Though they are still expensive, some day i'll get some myself. Try looking for Lower Latency Memory if you want to see some improvements in your system. As for the Raid O, I don't know what brand is your stock HD. Just make sure that the Part Model #'s match for better performace. As for 3.0Gb/s...I believe all SATA's availble for the XPS M1730's are 3.0Gb/s. Once you find the 2 indentical HDD's it's simple to install. The After market ones from newegg don't come with any instruction manuals/drivers or HDD screws for your existing caddy's. Once installed you'll have to format it through your Bios, to enable it then re-install your OS over agian! Search some private video's on youtube.com to show you, or you can use the installation/user giude that came with your system and lastly you can go through the dell's website and look for support pictures and fourms! Well, good luck on your Raid setup you'll love the extra storage and performance. Congrats on your sytem!!!

Yes, Kingston Hyper X makes good memory, and the CLS 4 is better than the 5, 800mhz due to the max, supported MHZ of out M1730. As you probably know that the higher the clock speeds the higher the latencys. I would buy those in a heart beat CLS4@667mhz would win CLS5@800mhz in our system.
In other words, if your an overclocker you'll want higer frequiencies memory to acheive their speeds. The Intel CPU's won't bottle neck as much when overclocked, The x9000 won't require 800mhz memory, as for the HDD's and caddy assembly, the caddy is already in your system. There are already 4 screws supporting your HDD, just use 2 of them on the new one when installed. The caddy is the casing which already holds your existing HDD's so you won't have to worry about any additional parts!

    Memory ?

Latency - The time from when a request is made to when it is answered; the total time required before data can be written to or read from the memory.

Example = A dragster doing a 1/4 mile in 4secs! or the rate of fire from a Mini GUN! Around 3000 rounds of 7.62mm ammo per minute!

tCLK or Max freq. – ClocK; the length of a clock cycle

Example = An open straight away for a Corvette ZR-1 hitting Maxx top speed! or A Nascar running maxx speed 1 time around the Circut!

Whoa whoa, the m1730 is maxed at 677mhz ram speed? And I thought Dell just picked the slower speed because of cost effectiveness.

Yeah, the M1730 is still using a 965 chipset, which only supports memory speeds up to 667MHz. As mentioned, though, you aren't going notice a significant difference going from 667MHz to 800MHz...
