    What is EPP?
It's an Employee/Educational Personal Purchase discount.

    Do I qualify?
Check with your employer or school IT dept.

    What is DPA?
Dell Preferred Account. It's like a Dell credit card and you don't get interest for 12 months on XPS purchases.

I can't see my DPA discount???
When checking out, you must choose any type of payment, except DPA. Then, from the drop down menu, choose DPA again, and your 4% discount will show up. To verify it, just view your cart again! :D

My work/school email doesn't go through?
Note: You must use your official company email so that we can confirm your eligibility. If you have difficulty obtaining your coupon, please send an email to [email protected] with your name, company name, email address entered below, phone number and "APRIL" in the subject line. Limit one coupon per eligible employee.

Another trick is to open a free @excite.com email account and you will get the coupon code right away!
    Update: @hotmail.com may work too?

    Good luck :D

Guys!!! Don't be fooled, dell is getting rid of inventory, which is fine...

Except the Nvidia cards in the 1530 and 1330 XPS lines(Geforce 8400 and 8600 only) are faulty! They will break on you...in about a year after purchase, granted, if you dont mind this.....dell will replace it for free, if your under warranty. (No worries... your fried GPU will definatly NOT affect your HD)

I'm not saying this because I personally have had one fail...i have not. A relative has had a macbook pro fail. Friends have had their XPS's fail, but mostly you can find much information on the internet about people's GPU's with unreasonably high temperature read-outs, which leads to the inevitable:

    A) new drivers that THROTTLE DOWN your gpu's power and that jack up your system fans. So your system fans will die prematurely from overworking and your GPU will be weaker....

    B) your GPU dies, and you will need a motherboard or "logic board" swap. This happens because many if not all OEM's solder their GPU's onto the motherboard or "logic board"(if you have a mac). As a result, the whole damn thing sometimes has to be replaced.

Nvidia released a statement to its share holders that there was something wrong with the 8400 and 8600 GPU's and as a result, their shares went dramatically down. This is a problem, don't be fooled by a nice price tag.

so if you buy...get a warranty...or just wait for the new XPS notebooks.

I'll just point out that this depends on whether the 8600M in the XPS is the new line, which have been supposedly fixed to correct that issue. And I don't mean the 9-series, I mean the problem in the 8-series cards are supposed to have been fixed.

That is a really nice deal, although the fact about the Nvidia failures is really stopping me from pulling the trigger - 3YR in home, and 3YR accidental damage, T8300/4GB/250GB - man, that's a nice price...

By the way guys, please be aware that this is not the best time to be shopping online; better to call and buy.

Why? Recent DNS Exploit. It's ISP dependent, but I'd be beware.

When did Nvidia claim to have fixed the problem? Can you direct me to the article/thread? As far as i'm aware, the only "fix" that they have created are software drivers that modify the fan speeds, etc.

In regards to someone's inquiry about when dell will release the montevina(centrino 2) xps line...i would put money on the first or second week of august when intel has fully rolled out it's montevina line.

The july 15th launch was a soft-launch...which is why so few notebooks came out then, early in august there will be a full roll-out with a phase-out of prior tech in most retail units(e.g. Centrino 1).

Of course, Apple may not release new macbooks or macbook pros until september(when the educational discount runs out + they are notorious for taking their sweet time in updating their model specs).

but...just a guess...you can expect backlit keyboards, wimax, thinner chasis, better GPU's, and probably a few other tricks up dells sleeve for the new XPS montevina line.

Granted...this is speculation, but based on their studio line, you can expect some nifty new features in their new XPS line...as some prior XPS tech(cylinder hinge, design, etc.) have trickled down to the new Studio line. Generally as older tech trickles down, flagship models(XPS) recieve the innovative new features.

none of that detracts from that fact that this is an excellent deal with one of the best warranty available. this is one of those deals that's too good to pass up if you don't already own a notebook. the worst it could happen is dell replacing your notebook with a better one. not to mention this is brand new and not refurbished.

I absolutley agree it's a fantastic deal, with a company known for some of the best warranties around! This was in no way meant to be a bashing, but a "head's up", didnt mean to give off that impression. By all means, this is an opportunity to get a really powerful notebook for an amazing price, i just wanted buyers to be aware of the potential issue.

The Dell is a better deal.. It's cheaper and comes with 3 yrs of warranty.. If you get HP, you're going to want a warranty or you're going to be stuck with a paper weight when something goes wrong with the laptop

I dunno - still terrified at the Nvidia thing...

Is this actually still a PRESENT problem? Or only on older GPU's?

It's just that I don't want to get to a point where I rely on it, and then all of a sudden it's out of commission for a few days, and I'd be up the creek.

It's like the prescription pill commercials you see....
The pill (M1530) absolutely rocks, and does what it's supposed to, but...
There are side-effects. And the side-effect here, is that it pulls a self-destruct.

Decisions....decisions....and only a few hours left to pull the trigger...
Mebbe I'll gamble the do a better deal to close them out later...

i just wanted to say that even though this is a kick ass deal, if u guys can wait till august, you should. w/ all the back to school and ppl looking for laptops during august, companies will start to engage in price wars which will reduce the price on the systems.

$1100 for this xps is a kickass deal. but if u have patience, dell might just offer the same (or a little pricey) deal w/ a new coupon again during august (it'll probably include the new 9 series GPU, which are NOT faulty, and the montevina chips).

dell will continue sending out coupons, so dont worry about the current one expiring. their probably will be a new coupon during the august sales. if i were u, id play the wait game (which, personally, i am, :) )

I understand where you're coming from but experience has taught me not to wait. Well at least if money is a concern.

Last year I wanted to buy a xps m1210 at the end of its cycle and the price went down to $999 almost fully loaded. I hesitated to pull the trigger and then it was gone. The only way you could get one was through the outlet which I didn't want to do. As soon as the m1330 popped up to take its place the price of a similarly configured model was $2000. It was then out of my price range and I was out of luck.

You can rest assured when the m1330 and m1530 are replaced or revised the price will jump back up. I would be extremely surprised if it didn't. I personally am about to apply this deal to a m1330 or 1530 (having a hard time deciding). I would advise any one seriously considering one of these models to do the same. And the stackable coupon ends tonight at 11:59 PM central time.

Why is it that when I click on the link, your right, it brings me to a dell XPS 1530 w/ everything decked out it seems, but I cannot for the life of me configure one on the site when I go to it myself to look like that? Even if I use the Federal Government Employee thing? Isn't it the same EPP deal?

What's the deal with DPA accounts? Is saving $47 dollars worth paying for a Dell DPA account?

It might be more worth it to pay with credit card, as some cards add an additional year of warranty for free.

    No interest on the laptop?

Can you sign up for a DPA account, buy the laptop, and then cancel the DPA account without any fees?
