    Hi All,

Is any one aware of the Dell Cyber Monday deals in Home segment. Is there a chance that Dell will offer more that $400 coupon thats currently prevailing after 21st Nov?

Please help me decide. I am planning to buy Inspiron 1420. The last day to use $ 400 coupon is 2mrw. please let me know if i should wait for further discounts.

    Thanx in advance

    Regards,
    Punk

they had a $500 coupon and a $150 gift card included a week ago. So yes, there will be better deals. I would wait for the new processors to come out in January which will lower the price of the 7000 series processors... hopefullly

Yes, you can buy what you like with the gift card.

Right now is not a good time to buy a Dell. The coupons are pretty weak. I'd wait a week at least and see what comes around.

Coupons are weak...I thought thats pretty good...$400 off currently...as this will be my first notebook, i havnt been part of notebook world earlier and not aware abt how strong a coupon can go and at what time.

I am very worried as $400 off deal closes tommorrow...and i just want to make sure that i will get a good deal this year if i leave this $ 400 off.

How strong a deal you expect Simic in term of dollars off in coming days?

Thanks a lot for sharing your comments

Remember, it's not so much how much the coupon deal offers off ($500, $400, etc.) but what sort of specs you're getting for your money. This is because Dell will inflate prices and then offer a large coupon and engage in other slightly deceptive practices. So in spite of these seemingly great deals (and don't get me wrong, some are very good deals) and in spite of their build-on-demand model, Dell is still pretty much like any other consumer computer company. That is, prices do not rise and fall, rise and fall, in any significant way, except for during short periods (weeks, perhaps a month). To keep up with competition, though, the long-term trend will always be downward--better specs for less money.

"and i just want to make sure that i will get a good deal this year if i leave this $ 400 off. How strong a deal you expect Simic in term of dollars off in coming days?"

It's hard to say what will happen within a 4-5 week window. Unfortunately at least for us, Dell claims to be selling laptops like hotcakes in this last quarter. But better deals will come along. If it concerns you, just use the $400; it's a fine deal, especially if you want the laptop now.

He raises an excellent point, although the $500 off coupon made it seem like the time to buy a laptop was last week, I configured one with the same specs as the one I bought a couple months ago, and it was seriously only like $25 less than what I got mine for with identical specs except the new ones have T7250 and mine has a T7300.

Whenever they have a huge coupon like that, they jack up the prices on the desirable upgrades like DVD-RW, vid cards, higher end processors, 2gigs RAM, and the bigger hard drives.

New deal seems to be weaker just $300 off :(
But one thing i came to know dell keeps on offering some or the other deal all the time. we just need to wait and watch for the deal that suits us.

I have to wait for the a $500 off deal :(

let me point out how the deals went

    $500 of $1399+
    $400 of $1299+
    $300 of $1199+

So if u config up to those prices then use the coupons u always come out with $899

Not true at all, there are definitely better times to buy. Today for example, is not a good deay for a Dell, in the next couple weeks there will be much better offers. Likewise you need to be aware of upcoming technology releases as they will affect prices significantly.

Thats true only if your initial config is worth $1199. What if you have configured a system worth $1399, in this scenario you are bound to loose whenever $ off goes down.

Like in my case my config is $1444 which i will increase to $1499 just to claim $200 gift card :)

    System Color Jet Black
    Processor Intel Core2Duo T7500(2.2Ghz
Display High Resolution, Glossy Widescreen 14.1 inch display (1440 * 900)
    Video Card 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS
Memory 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
Hard Drive 120GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
Optical Drive CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
    Wireless Intel® 3945 802.11a/g Mini-card
Bluetooth Options Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
    webcam Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
Battery 85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)
Sound Options High Definition Audio 2.0

So for me $ off matters, ofcourse for people with config arnd $1k, it doesnt matters much.

Thats idiotic simply b/c u are convinced that Dell doesnt price gouge and they DO...so keeping that in mind they will keep prices the same no matter if the new centrino architecture comes out or not

Yesterday may have been a bad day to buy through the Home Office program, but what about today through the education discount program?

I'm looking at buying an Inspiron 1520 through the higher education student discount program. The build I chose has a list price of $2100 but will be $1580 after discounts (I will also get a $200 gift card). As has been mentioned above, the size of this discount alone isn't a good indication of how good the deal is, so I've pasted the specs below. Can anyone comment on how good a deal this is (note that the education discount is always 12%--so the "regular price" for this build is really $1848)? Also, for someone looking to get a laptop that will be good for work and games, would anyone suggest changes to this build?

actually today may be better. its 200 off 899 . so that brings it to 699 as lowest possible price. yesterday it was 225 off of 949 which comes to 724.

Your lack of gramar skills makes it impossible to grasp what you're trying to say, but it's safe to say your "general rule of lappies" is something you came up with on your own and is flawed (to put it nicely). :)

Yes, but if you had configured a 1300 when the offer was at $300 @ 1199 your total would be 1000,
and if you had configured a 1300 when the offer was at $400 @ 1299, your total cost would be 900.

See the difference? Even though it works out to the same according to your calculation, the bigger coupons allow you to go for more upgrades purely because your system can be spec'd out with more expensive configurations.

That said, Dell does play around with its upgrade prices.

I realize every one here is looking at the Inspiron models, but you should take a look at Dell's Vostro line as well. They seem to have better prices/performance specs right now. (click on the small buisness link at the beginning)
