Nice deal indeed, though I agree the resolution is pathetic. The processor is a bit weak, but has enough power for most uses. If it had a higher-resolution screen, the relatively low-end processor wouldn't deter me from buying it.

That is indeed a pretty good deal. The bronze color looks really nice, but 17" is too big for me.

For some reason my unit runs twice as hot as the floor model?!?!?!?!?! My cpu idles at 40-50°C while the floor model was at 15-20°C for the cpu. This laptop is much faster after reinstalling windows. I will put some games on it tomarrow hopefully and tell you how they run. By the way the sale ends on the 15th

How impressive is this really with 30% off coupons that HP floats around now and then (I believe this week in fact had 30% off)?

I am not trying to be a prick, I am just asking - I have not bothered to configure one on HP.com.

Can you look at the manufacturer and model for the display please - with a special program or in control panel? You can use EVEREST or PC Wizard to check your screen manufacture. Please comment on its quality too (colours, viewing angles, brightness). Thanks!

Does anyone know if this has a S/PDIF port (ie: mini-TOSLINK port) in one or both of the headphone jacks.

Yeah, I saw that document also. If you look at the "HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment PC - Maintenace and Service Guide" under this laptop though, page 5 it seems to indicate that it may have one. I just haven't been able to fine any place or anyone to say for sure one way or the other. Even their support gave me conflicting answers. Their email support thought that it didn't and their chat support thought that it did.

It seems that all higher-end notebooks that HP makes have the dual-headphone jack connectors. Compaqs don't have it though.
