Just picked up the Emachine 5405 at Best Buy for $999.00 minus $400 in Best Buy rebates, plus $100 Emachine rebate, minus $33 in reward zone bucks, not a bad machine for $466. I've used it for a few days now and have had no problems withit, i just purchased the hp dv1000 for xmas and have compared the 2 machines together and have to say even though the hp is a better machine, the emachine pretty much kept up with it., plus the brigtview screen on the hp gets annoying if you dont look at it staight on. I can get 2 of the emachines for less than one hp dv1000. the hp is going back. pajer

wow, $466 for such a laptop is incredible. Even if the 5405 had a lot of drawbacks it'd be hard to justify returning this notebook at such a price. Just think, even buying Windows XP will cost you around $200 and you get that with the system when you buy it of course.

Yeah, I thought it can't get any cheaper than 599, but I forgot about the 100 rebate from emachine. This is definitely the deal sweetener, 499 for the specs is unheard off...well...at least not till next year or so...lol. Hopefully this machine will have a good rep for the long run, that way it be a TRUE STEAL of this year indeed.
