I understand that this post is not about a notebook deal - but it is a deal nonetheless and I am sure some NBR member will benefit from this.

For a limited time, get a free .biz domain for 1 year at 1and1.com! The website says the deal is only available for a "few hours" so be quick if you need it.

After the first year, standard renewal fees will apply.

You have to select "Domain" under package selection. I know it lists prices but when you go to your cart, you will see that for the first year you are being charged $0.00

Please note, a .biz domain is not for the everyday user like .com or .net. In order to use a .biz domain you have to be a genuine business or commercial need.

Domains with the top level domain (TLD) .biz are reserved for genuine business or commercial use only. Registering a .biz domain name solely for the purpose of compensation (by selling, trading or leasing) or using the domain name exclusively for personal, non-commercial purposes or the expression of non-commercial ideas is strictly forbidden.

Of course it's forbidden, because it's against the law to squat against a business domain.
Me thinks, if your site becomes popular within a year, you'll have someone stealing your domain once the year is up, and you'll have to pay a lot of money to get it back. I just smell something fishy about this, or is it just me?

    It is just you :D.

You can renew your .biz domain (or any domain for that matter) before the 1 year is over. No one can take your domain unless you release it (by canceling or not paying/renewing.)

In fact, I bet it is set to automatic renewal by default - I will let you know once my registration goes through.

The only thing I would be weary about is that you are dealing with 1and1.com - they dont have the best reviews out there. I wish this was through GoDaddy.com!

You cant steal a domain if its locked. You need an authorize code and unlock.

Before the ipod become popular, itunes.com was owned by this other guy. Apple payed him out for like millions to release the domain.

Which is exactly why so many domains are just registered but unused. People are trying to hit it big. I find it so annoying I try to go register a domain and its taken but not being used.

I believe someone had JenniferLopez.com or something before Jennifer Lopez got it. She had to pay him around $100k I heard.
