Too bad it comes with Vista, and the mouse is unresponsive.

I did not like the quality overall with the previous models based on the same chasis but for 1250 and a free game thats still a great deal and tempting. I just got the G50V so not on the market for a new laptop but if I was I would probably get this.

Yeah it's the best specs/price value out there even before the $200 off.I saw this on the site before and didn't realize you get a free game with it too, bonus.I just got the P-6860 FX for a great price. These P- FX models all have the exact same case, and it doesn't feel cheap at all, very sturdy. The mouse is good, nice and big,its not unresponsive IMO.My only complaint would be the bulk,I know its 17" obviously but the battery also sticks out.I can't fit it in my huge 17" bag without detaching the battery. The powerbrick is literally brick like, huge.Needless to say I won't be bringing this monster to the library or cafe very often.I don't need a desktop replacement,I have a desktop on a 26" monitor. So I wouldn't of gotten it if it wasn't for the price. But if all you want is pure performance and portability is not a concern at all than this is definitely the laptop to get.Price may go back up after Labor Day.Heh it's kinda crazy that the 7811 is $100 cheaper than the 6860 now, with it's way superior specs.Don't know what BestBuy is thinking.

Just hope this help someone with their decision.

Mind listing all the changes from the 6860 to the 7811? I can look them up but if you know it already please share as I would like to know.

Uses the new montevina chipset, comes with a faster cpu using the p8400 running at 2.26ghz, uses 4gb of ddr3 ram, wuxga resolution screen, 200gb 7200rpm hdd 9800m gts that runs at 600mhz on the core and 800mhz on the ram, I believe the shaders are clocked higher also, resulting in the card running much closer to the 8800m gtx/9800m gt.

i dont know exactly off the top of my head, but a faster cpu, more ram(ddr3) monteniva as opposed to santa rosa, better resolution.

EDIT: dang i had the page up for so long before i looked at it. someone posted before me lol.

also, be warned, the 7811 have been having lots of problems. many people are on their 2nd/3rd/4th exchange. but eventually they do get one that is problem-free.

Every notebook has issues, but wow 3 or 4 exchanges thats bad.

Seems like probably the best budget gamers notebook out there tho.

I really don't think it's that bad.I've had no problems with my 6860.Think problems mostly arise when you game on it for too long and it overheats like alot of gaming laptops. But the 7811 may run even hotter with the more powerful CPU and GPU.Just invest in a laptop cooling pad.Probably best to get one that keeps the vents on the underside of it unblocked.

To be fair I have to say that the 17inch WUXGA sreen looks really nice, and some of the generic games looked noticeably better in A/B comparisons to other laptops on display(they usually dont). However, the overall build quality seems cheap when compared to the slick HP models, and the mouse has a feel as if it is lacking in percision, you have to make an effort to get the pointer to go exactly where you want it. The mouse on my almost 2 year old Compaq V6120us has a much more percise feel to it.

I bought 8 of these systems until now and only 1 had problems. Over all the computer has much better built quality than, Dell, HP, and Toshiba IMO. I had a chance to use almost any brand of 17'' computers other than the clevo-sager stuff. The touchpad is very nice to use. You can change the sensitivity from the driver which makes it perfect. Also heating os not an issue. I undervolted the CPU to 0.9125 on 2.26GHZ and max temp is 62C (after 40 minutes of orthos) and idles around 38C. GPU temps are also pretty low. After two runs of 3DMark06 the temp goes to 72C max at overclocked settings. So actually to me it is a really nice computer.

Vicious, I had two g50s before and one of them had the x7800. Sorry man but in no aspect other than the warranty, G50 can not beat this lappy. Even the weight is not that different. There is only less than 3lb difference in weight but much bigger screen, much cooler computer, and a real full kepboard. Plus 9800m gts. If I had a chance to sell it without a loss, I would definitly move on man.

G50V beats it in many ways, just not the GPU. But this is not a competition so I do not want to go back and forth over it.

For me the G50 is the best because I do not game often, I am more of a multimedia person.

I realize this is not a competition, but the keyboard, mouse, and overall build quality on the G50 seemed far superior to the Gateway , and we thank you for your support.

Exactly, eveybody has their own tastes. For me the built quality I saw was better on the gateway as you can also tell otherwise. What I think is if you want to use the computer as a gaming rig gateway has more to offer.
