I'm going to Best Buy later today to see if they happen to have it in stock and the website inventory is just wrong about the backorder status. It's happened before and I wouldn't be surprised if they're actually sitting in stores at this very moment. If so, I'll be coming home with one. :)

I hear they are very solid computers, the only thing I dont like is the resolution and 17 inches is way to big for me

this is a heck of a deal for a gaming computer.

I.'m perfectly fine with 1440 x 900. Actually, I wouldn't want much higher without a GTX 280m or some SLI setup.

I don't know why everybody's all like "WAHHHH!!!!" over the resolution. In my search for a laptop, I've actuall eliminated units with too high a resolution for decent gaming to be possible with whatever graphics solution is installed. I think 1440x900 is a good match for the GTX260m that's in the P-79xx series. If the thing was loaded with a SLI GTX280m setup and it was still 1440x900 then I'd complain.

The GTX 260m is no slouch and can play alot of games at 1920 x 1200 with max settings. Gateways biggest mistake is the 1440 x 900 resolution. They should atleast made it 1680 x 1050.

    I own a P7811FX w/1200P screen, and love it. I also have another 17" laptop that's 900P. I definitely prefere the 1200P over the 900P.
    I wonder if you can swap a P8711's 1200P screen with a P7915's 900P screen...

I originally thought the 1440x900 would bother me to no end coming from WUXGA monitors.
Until I got my macbook pro, after that it was all changed for me. I wish my mac had a gtx260 though :(

This is a great laptop and I will most DEFINITELY be picking one up as soon as I can find one refurb :)

I actually have 2. A Dell SXPS 1340 and Dell Mini 9. Don't call me a liar just yet. :p. There are about... 10 computers in my house(i have a lot of siblings).
The P7811 is actually my brothers he also owns an HP DV8000 and Gateway Ml3109. My Dad has an Inspiron 2650. My Sister has an HP N6220 and so does my other brother. There is a Dell desktop in the closet and an IBM desktop sitting in the basement. I have experience with all of these laptops because I'm the go to boy for computer help around here.

I just save myself the hassle and say the computers are mine ;)

The P-7915u doesn't play BluRay out of the box. That's why I ordered an LG Electronics CT10N drive for the one I just bought/ordered. The faceplate from the laptop fits the drive just fine and the install takes one screw.

I'm glad I didn't buy P-7805u ($999.99) at TigerDirect. When was 7915u released? Do you know when it will become available at other stores than BestBuy (they charge $102 sales tax  ). And what about the prices? Does anyone know if will remain below $1,049.99? (I'm sorry for that question, but I don't know how the US markets acts near christmas)... Regards.

The battery life for the Gateway P-7915u FX is said to be 3 hours or so. Can the pre-installed battery be replaced with one that will provide much longer battery life (4 hours or longer)?

The BestBuy model is the P-7915u and the Tigerdirect model is the P-7908u. With the only difrence between the two being the Hard Drives, Buy the P-7915u its the same as the 7908u except the Hard Drive.

Thank you each for your responses. I did not notice the slight difference in either laptop.

Can the battery in either model be replaced with a 12-cell battery and will this increase the battery life significantly (from 3hrs to 4hrs?)

I suppose not having bluetooth is no big deal because bluetooth adapters can be bought for as low as $20 and then easily placed in a USB port without any hassle.

The lack of blueray is disappointing, but I was told in another thread that a blueray drive can be added to the front of the laptop using only one screw?

It should be sold in stores and not only Online.

What would you rate its overall performance? Maybe you can provide a brief review when it comes to things like graphics, battery life and speed?

Best Buy headquarters called me tonight to say they have no idea when the P-7915u is coming out. As far as they know, Gateway has not set a release date and Best Buy does not know when they will sell it Online or in stores because Gateway has not sent out any notice.

Sounds strange? Not really. My guess is that Gateway is focusing on the Christmas season and the upcoming Black Friday hype which means the P-7915u will become available when the Christmas shopping season commences and not beforehand.

That sounds like BB is blowing smoke up your shorts. Gateway is saying that BB has it available.

I'd like to know the truth, too, since I've actually ordered it already through Best Buy. I'd like to know when my order will ship.

I'm really impressed with this machine. I don't mind playing games at 900p, but for a 17 incher it's a little low. For that price, who cares.

@ agnusdei. The battery life is said to be three to nearly four hours which is not bad for a gaming laptop although I would like to see how the battery runs at highest settings. I am not sure if the battery can be replaced with one that is more powerful. Maybe someone else can answer that question.
