well, it's really cheap.. but I can't tell you if Everex is a good laptop manufacturer.. I would check some reviews on that laptop

I saw this brand selling at Walmart... sure, it is cheap to find a 7600 for $700, but is it wise? Quality is very important...
-
The only reason I would flag this as a no would be the brand. I have never heard of it before, and many others haven't either. Look for some reviews to help. Overheating could be a problem in a chassis that isn't built right.

I think this is an msi
-
i don't think it is.....msi's media buttons don't look like that. if it were based of an msi model, it would be this one:

They misspelled nVidia, for one. That's kinda a flag right there for me.

built by FIC, as for the typo, thats Office max's fault

A friend of mine has an Everex, not that model but he totes his around everywhere and it seems to take the daily abuse well. he loves it, so whatever a second hand review is worth
-
it is a mitac

No, its an FIC LOL. check out the link. Everex was a big brand in the old days of notebook, was bought out by FIC who oems for a ton of people, and at one time was one of the principal mb mfgrs. Looks like they taking a run at the retail market again. I bought 2 of these and they rock. quality seems fine, exterior is simple, but it has access hatches to every major component, all pci express based and uses nvidia's chipset. so far I couldn't be happier. for the money...nothing i can think of comes close.

Another good review of the Everex. How do you think it compares to, say, the HP DV9702 on sale at Compusa?
-
That's a great deal on the HP. at current Officemax pricing, that's 100.00 more for the HP but..you get a 120 5400 drive instead of the Everex Fujitsu100gig, the centrino setup which is faster than the amd, 8cell vs. six cell, builtin web camera, more software, (some of which looks useable) , more ports, a/b/g wifi instead of just /b/g, and it apparently has the tv remote , 4 usb's instead of 3.
All in all a very nice setup with same video card. For the 100.00 i think i might go hp. for the 200.00 difference on my machines, i'm happy

one thing tho, that coreduo isn't 64bit. I wonder if the socket/system is compatible to upgrade to the newer core2duo...
-
you also have to consider you are paying tax on 1200 not 900 so its a good bit more than 100 more
-
Back alive while supplies last... saw the machine at my local officemax - it's decent, good solid quality, thought the touchpad like the laptop mag review said could be better. Feels a little cheap but the screen, keypad and ports were pretty good.

Good deal? Everex 17" with Nvidia 7600 for $700
