    I just bought two sticks of Kingston 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC4200) from NewEgg for $205.38 shipped FedEx. :)

The current price is $98.99 per stick. That's down from $115 per stick last week. If you want/need notebook RAM, I'd jump on this fast!

Now, I just need to buy a notebook. :p

Correction: PC2 4200 RAM, in addition to requiring the latest P-M chipset, is also incompatable with all current AMD chipsets (as is all other DDR2 RAM).

I'm also curious if your ram would fit all Sonoma notebooks. If so, then what are the memory detection tools used for?

sometimes RAM can be defective and not let the laptop turn on properly...or at all..and if u replace the RAM to a different RAM..even if it is the same exact stick of RAM...the laptop could start working again...i saw somewhere else in this forum that they ordered a 1 GB stick of RAM from newegg.com and found out that it was causing their laptop to crash...and got the same one again from newegg.com for free because it was defective and the new stick of RAM works fine in that person's machine

Correct! I bought the RAM for my next notebook, which will be the Asus z70va or possibly the Acer Ferrari 4005. It'll depend on how long until the Asus is available. I prefer the Asus and am getting by alright with my company provided Dell D800 so far, so I expect to hold out until the z70va is released. My new 2 gigs of PC4200/533 MHz RAM is just waiting to be popped in.

Well, Jack, you've kind of narrowed your choices: you can't get the Ferrari because it uses an AMD chipset, and the RAM is incompatable with it.

I suppose you could always return the RAM if you go that path, but the ASUS is probably a better quality notebook anyways.

Return to newegg = incur a 15% restocking fee = $30 for nothing. Ouch. Why didn't you wait until you get your laptop since the price will probably drop again by then?

I'm covered on my RAM purchase. If, and that's a big IF, I buy the Ferrari 4005, my brother will take my RAM for the price I paid. About the only thing that'd definitely push me to the 4005 would be if the Asus z70va were delayed by more than another two months (i.e., any later than mid-October). I'll need my new notebook for a job I'll be doing in Costa Rica, starting in November.

I doubt we'll see the price of PC4200 RAM drop much further than the $99 per 1 GB I paid for it. Most of the time, the price hovers in the $100 - $105 range.

the transcend 1 GB stick went down to $97...from i think $108 or so...and that could even go down even more
