That is pretty hot. A couple thing I would point out, you may want to see how much shipping is. When they ran this a few weeks ago it was $500, but with free shipping. I think the shipping is like $70, but I could be wrong. Also, the aforementioned 20% off Office Depot Coupons I saw on ebay said it excluded computers, but there may be some other stackable ones around you could use.

Yea... I didn't notice that it excluded stuff like Computers. You can still get a $40 coupon making the price like $360. And If you don't want the printer you could put that up on ebay for around $60. (the average online price is like $90 for the free printer that comes with this deal). So you could end up getting it for $300. But a lot of trouble. As for shipping... Why not pick it up in the store, and not pay $70.

Toward the bottom of the page it says "Actual product available by delivery only.". It also says "Shipping and handling additional". I'm pretty sure the shipping was $75 last ime.

You might also want to get the coupon from whomever you buy it form on eBay before trying to use it in store. Some stores allow you to just give them the coupon number while others require you to show the coupon.

If you can get one of the ebay coupons I still think it is a pretty good deal. Save about $75 over what you'd pay over on HP if you willing to front the money for the rebates. Office Depot is usually pretty good about rebates.

Thats the same type of deal I got on my dv5000z. The deal is in-store only so ordering it from their site is not an option. When I ordered mine, shipping was only $35 for me, but its seems pretty slow. I placed the order on 3/19 and according to Fedex my laptop is in arkansas right now.

Really great deal! But I think the CPU is a little bit slow. Does this one have a shared 32M video card? I wonder if you can use this model to play some games (e.g. GTA:SA).

This computer uses the Xpress 200M with shared memory (up to 128 I think). The cpu is a little slow, but really not bad for a budget laptop. I'm really not sure if it will play GTA:SA. You should check the minimum system requirements for the game. That should tell you. ;)

It would seem that in regards to the gravity of the performance differences between the Sempron and the Turion processors, many are being misinformed.

I have seen many posts on this forum that claimed or implied that a Sempron equipped notebook is suitable for office tasks, however it would not be recommended for 3D video gaming, photo editing, audio or video encoding/re-encoding, or viewing Hi-Definition video. If these claims were indeed true, they would also apply to a similarly equipped notebook with a Turion 64, since the visible performance differences between the two is relatively insignificant (I have owned a V2000Z w/Sempron 3000+ and a V5000Z w/Turion 64 ML-34).

Synthetic benchmarks* and distributed computing benchmarks aside one would be hard pressed to notice a significant visible performance difference between a V2000z with a Sempron or a Turion 64 at a similar clockspeed. For those of you who can translate benchmark results into an objective evaluation; I have attached a chart which compares the PCMark 2004 scores of the below notebooks that were reviewed on this site. Although these notebooks have a different chassis, they essentially have the same mainboard components.

    L2000 - Turion 64 ML-37 / 2.0 Ghz 1MB L2 cache / 5400 RPM
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2432

    DV5000z - Sempron 3300+ / 2.0 Ghz 128K L2 cache / 4200 RPM
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2774

In regards to 3D video games, games that are not choppy on a V2000z with a Turion 64, will not be choppy on a V2000z with a Sempron; the CPU is not the bottleneck.

Lastly, I can also attest that the V2000z with a Sempron 3000+ has no problem displaying 1080i HD video in MPEG2 format, or 1080p HD video in WMV-HD/VC9 format, or MPEG4/DIVX format without requiring any frames to be dropped...though 720p is crisper because the 1:1 pixel mapping ratio (video:screen) does not require downscaling).

In my humble opinion, unless the 64-bit instruction sets of the Turion is a desired feature, I would not overlook this offering (or another offering) solely because it includes a Sempron processor.

*Primarily those non-interactive rolling-only 3D benchmarks where many end-users consider the difference in results between a slideshow-like 2.5 frames per second average, and a slideshow-like 3.2 frames per second average as 'an impressive 150 point increase'
