This is about a half off depending where you look so it is pretty good in my opinion.

I got 3 of these last week. 2 were fine. 1 had heat issues (poor cooling application) and is going back as soon as I get back in town. Machines run great.

    Notes:

-Powerjack works fine on all units, though may be a liiiiitle sensitive to being pulled out. Otherwise, I'm not sure what moose is referring to.

-Webcam sucks unless you're in a brightly lit area.

-Difficulty of getting the proprietary VGA dongle means you should stay away if you need VGA-out.

Everything else is great. Highly recommend. Price makes this deal unbeatable unless you need a machine that'll get more than 4 hours of battery life in between charges.

Oh, and for those wondering this is the 1030NR. Product number may differ, but the tag on the bottom of the computer says 1030NR. Google "Mini 1030NR" if you want to compare the value you're getting.

    Great find, Cin!

Quick question about SSD machines. Does the fact that it has an SSD make it less likely to be majorly damaged if it fell or was banged around?

This deal is great and since I carry all of my entertainment media on external portables, I thought this might be great for travelling. I don't really need the hard drive space if the SSD is less prone to damage.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

SSDs have no moving parts, and will not sustain damage as easily as conventional hard drives. Chances are you'll severely damage some other part of your laptop in a fall, rather than the SSD.

Has anybody else ordered one of these from buy.com with this deal?

I ordered mine on 4/9, and it still hasn't moved out of the "Processing" stage.

I've ordered 3. maybe first week of April when they first went up for sale (and sold out).

All 3 were received, though one was sent back due to defect.

Mine is still in "Processing." I have a hunch they sold out, and I will get a cancellation email any day.

    Typical Buy.com

Thanks for the response, though. I'm not going to get my hopes up. I already have 5 laptops anyway, but this deal was pretty darn good. :(

They'll get more. They sold out of the first bunch they had the first day they had them (maybe April 1)...then they got them back in again (hence the creation of this thread).

I wouldn't stress about it. And aside from the balls-slow HDD, it's a fantastic machine. (and the HDD is only the pits when installing things. It's fine when running apps, from my experience).

My only gripe nowadays is the lack of availability of the VGA dongle. It's sad, really. I think many of these Best Buy returns (well..at least some) were made by people who bought the device expecting to use it in business presentations or some such...only to open the box and find it the proprietary VGA cable was not in the box...then going only to find out the VGA cable doesn't even exist yet, some 6 months after product release.

I refuse to recommend this product to anyone who needs VGA connectivity for a larger monitor or projector, as the product simply doesn't exist. Get another netbook, in spite of the low price found here. You'll regret it if you pick this unit up.

    Hi, Cin!

    Just got in from NY.

You are right. I just noticed that a non-refurb from Best Buy is on sale this week for 299....only 20 bucks more. Maybe more deals are on the way.

    Hi, Cin!

Thanks, but I've never really liked the Asus EEE line. The thing that attracted me to this netbook was the price and the 10.1 widescreen. I already have an Acer Aspire One, but would use the HP for travelling to places where I do not need to use my computer except on the plane, ie. going to my mom's house in NY where she has a computer, broadband, etc. I only need the computer to watch movies off an external hard drive while on the plane.

Buy.com really pissed me off this morning before I left NY. They would not cancel my order, saying it was "in fulfillment," even though it is not in stock according to the site (it says IN STOCK SOON...) I am ready to go ballistic on them. I'm willing to pay the extra 20 bucks at Best Buy.

    OOOOPS...

The Best Buy deal for 299.99 is for the 8.9 inch HP Mini, NOT the 10.1 (which still sells for 349).

I was looking at the site before leaving for the airport. Guess I was in too much of a rush.

    My bad.

    Hi, Cin!

I followed the link but this EEE has an N270, no bluetooth and, according to one of the reviews, 7 hours of battery life.

    Is there a different one?
