Aside from the 2 more cells, blue ray and 1gb more memory for free, does this offer anything over the dv6t option that i can get for $799? I won't ever see myself writing blueray and can always upgrade the battery or memory later, is this still a better deal?

Also the screen resolution is better on the 18t. If you configure dv6t with the same specs (excluding the screen since there is no full hd option for DV6t) the price looks very similar. If you are on a tight budget go with DV6t, otherwise 18t offers a better value for the money.

I see why....Because your doing it thru The EPP Program..and it's not applicable thru that Segment! ;)

Only thru HP Home! ;) If you do it thru HP Home it will work for you!
Now, you can take that coupon code, and Call up a EPP Rep, and see if you can't get them to match that Coupon Code ~ and see what happens!

Worked for me on the epp program. This what you have to do.
    1) sign out if you're already signed it using your epp discount
    2) build the quad computer you want (dv6, dv7, or dv8) and add to cart
    3) apply the coupon code provided in the first post
    4) sign in to your epp program
    5) go to cart to see the computer you just built
    6) add the coupon again and hit apply

    Just worked for me!

Is HP the only company that consistently offers these kinds of deals on high performance laptops? Recently, they offered a $500 coupon for a laptop that brought the regular price down to under $1000.

I am very surprised their competition has failed to compete by offering similar deals.

I'm not sure. I tried running GPU-Z on a HP dv7t Quad Edition at Best Buy but the place where it shows the type of memory was blank and it said it had 0MB of memory for some reason.

I ordered this computer yesterday. The coupon didn't work online but when i spoke with the salesman at HP I mentioned that I had seen a coupon someplace online and he said he'd check into it and then he came back and said it's good and took off another $200 besides the built in $200 discount. Another big selling point for me is that I have 21 days to return it for a full refund (minus shipping) for any reason at all, say if a pixel is bad.

Avii - warning! the last time i ordered an HP laptop, I only got one drive (as I was planning on buying 2 7200rpm drives on my own) and sure enough, it only came with one caddy!! to make matters worse, it was a royal PITA to get another caddy - nobody had it in stock, i ended up waiting weeks, and it cost $40 when I finally found one!

Moral of this story is just get 2 drives when you order it and ebay them if you want to swap them out with your own!

Not really a review, just some impressions, pictures posted of HD kit and installation:

There is another mini review in the same tread. No caddy or HD kit for the second drive. I only have 1 drive ordered.

    Hi there Moudine.

The GT230M wont be able to max everything at Crysis, but you will be able to play it lowering some details and maybe res.

Dual drives gives better performance if it is in RAID 0 (I think) or if you put in a SSD and a HDD together.

how long would the battery last on ur dv8t ?
as i can see u choose the 8 cell ,
i choose the long life battery but am confused about one thing
does both of them last the same amount of time but the long life
just lives longer ? or does it actually lasts longer when ur on battery mode

    Hi there Moudine.

I cannot help you very technically about the DV8T, since I do not own one. Mine is a HP Envy 15...

But I can suggest you this thread, the HP DV8 Owners Lounge for technical information on this model.

What I can tell you is this.
The higher the amount of cells a battery has the longer the battery life will last. This means when running on battery it will give more time before going into sleep mode. But be aware, some larger batteries stick out of the model and give it a little bump on the back. This is if keeping everything constant (doing the same tasks on both cases). For example lets assume a 6 cell gives you 4 hours. We could assume that a 9 cell would be capable of 6 hours. But this varies on usage and consumption of each particular laptop.

The battery life as how long will the battery last before it turns useless depends on the amount of times you charge it. This is called a cycle. A battery has a certain amount of cycles (1 cycle=1 discharge and recharge) before it the battery cannot hold the power. It is said (I have yet to check it) that since cycle 1 the battery start to wear. Dont worry that the battery should give enough time before it starts to show the wear.

If you have any technical or performance information about the model, the Owners Lounge I am linking you to is the best place to ask about this particular model, since owners of the DV8 post there normally.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Just felt like sharing. I love HP. I know their other providers out there that may offer ssd drives, dual video cards, and three HD drives, not to mention a Core i7 920 extreme (in a laptop), but I have had my ZD 7000 from 2003 and it still kicks . This computer has a Pentium 4 HT with 3 ghz and 2 gb ram, and nearly 7 years later, it is still my only laptop. Just recently I purchased a DV8t and can't wait to have it and use it for the next 5 or 6 years hopefully with the specs that I got.

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-820QM Processor (1.73GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB).
    8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)

Everything else is basically the same or upgradable in the future. Looking forward to loving this machine with you all people!!

Man, you got good use out of that thing. Mine died 5x and HP replaced it 18 months ago with a DV5 that died last week.

I really, really like HP laptops, but they just haven't been reliable for me.

You are going to love that machine. I've got an HDX9494 aka Dragon that I have been using for the last 16 months... its great. I get tons of compliments on it.

I spent the day looking at non HP laptops for my wife. Its not easy for me to select a non HP laptop in spite of the troubles we've had. I am going to put a new MB in her DV5.
