Bestbuy is having a sale on the dv1708nr(dv1000t series) with Celeron M 410 and 512MB DDR2 memory. Great deal if you need a laptop just to surf the web and type documents. Battery life should be below the average for the dv1000 series considering it has the Celeron, but still for $399 is a good deal...

    60GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
    24X DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
    14.0” WXGA High-Definition BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 768)

Crashes are generally related to software issues which can be resolved in most cases. If it is hardware related then you got a lemon and contct tec support for warranty work. The dv1000 series has been around or over 2yrs, although it has its own issues, it has sold quite well and I dont see reason why this should be any different. Also laptops at this price range are pretty rare and only retail stores carry it once is a while. They usually have 256MB RAM or have slower HDD's. This has 512 and 5400rpm HDD, both are definate advantages for this one.

i understand what you are saying but I have got a replacement and still have problems with it. I do not know why but I have always had problems with HP. it had mostly been a hardware problem because the motherboard and processor has gone bad.

That still means you're likely to have a lemon. No computer unit is built with hardware that is 'more likely' to crash than any other hardware. If it is crashing there is either something wrong with your software, or something wrong with your hardware and it needs to be fixed.
