...it could also be a clear out stock to clear old stock befor the arrival of the more power ful centrino pro
surely the AMD share in the market and the demand is expected to decrease

I was just posting this for anyone who wanted this specific model......... didn't want to start a debate about the merits of AMD vs. Intel.

It is not a debate. Sorry if it sounded like one. I was just really disappointed because I thought about buying it. Sorry, I will delete it.

Just to confirm, this is the model without a touchscreen, right?

Correct. This is a touchscreen-less model..... only the tx1020us seems to be available in retail as a touchscreen model (and it seems like many retail stores aren't carrying them at all, only the non-touchscreen models).

I think the tx might still have some appeal frankly just as a small laptop; I played around with the touchscreen version (the tx1020us) at MicroCenter, and it is kind of nice, but I sort of realized that I wouldn't even use the touchscreen all that much anyway.

But the tx is a nice machine I think as a small compact laptop.

a convertible laptop without touchscreen can probably be used for watching movies when its in tablet mode or for slide shows or presentations i guess
if you look at it in that way it would not be as bad as it sounds
zadillo how did the touchscreen one feel i mean in terms of build quality and the pen how big was it?

Well, build quality on all the tx's I've tried has seemed pretty solid. They seem like really nice and solidly built little machines, and I like the form factor a great deal.

The pen was big enough, but felt cheap and too light (just a plastic stylus).

Honestly, the touchscreen seemed of dubious value to me - as others have noted, with the passive screen, writing on the screen doesn't work all that well, and I often found it dropping parts of lines, etc. And it didn't seem accurate enough for things like moving things around on the screen or tapping a button on the screen with your finger.

I think the idea is interesting, but I'd love to see HP do a version of the tx with an active screen instead.

i was under the impression that HP got the convertible laptops right
    but that doesnt seem so
looks like they have a long way to go till perfection
hopefully they may take some pointers from teir mistakes during the santa rosa refresh

Well, the only "flaw" I see in the tx is the passive screen (no active digitizer) and the limitation of only AMD processors. But it seems very nice in terms of form factor, etc.

Note that the tx is a different product from HP; they do make more traditional tablets with active digitizers, etc.

The tx seems more about making a cheaper solution (most tablet PC's are closer to $2000) aimed more at the consumer market.... which is probably smart, as the market for Tablet PC's so far has been pretty niche.
