    Hey guys/gals!

My first post in the forum (although a lurker for a while now)...First, let me say that the forum does a great service to the community because there :decision: out there...

    Here's my question:
Need a laptop to replace my Presario 2100 (It's almost 3 yrs old)...mostly for home use and travel (web, word editing, pics vids, and music).
Found the XPS M140 with the following setup:
    - Pentium M 750 (1.86 GHz)
    - 1 GB RAM
    - 80 GB HDD (5400rpm)
    - 14.1in WXGA
    - DVD Burner
    - Intel PRO Wi-Fi 2200
    - Integrated Intel Med Graph Accel 900
    - XP Media Ctr Ed. with remote control
    - MCAfee 24 month subscription
    - 3Yr Dell Warranty.

For: $1279 (18 month, no interest financing)

IS this a good deal? any alternative suggestions?
I'd like more than 1 yr warranty but is not a deal killer...
    Thanks!

no. you can get the same model on the small biz site for less. its the 630m. but for $1200, you could go for an asus z63a or msi 1022, compal efl30. you might not get the spec bundle, but the build quality is probably better. and 1g ram from dell is probably expensive, maybe goto newegg.com and buy cheaper. but if you really wanna get an xps140, you could get it refurbished. i saw one for 679 in the outlet the other day. best to look on fridays, cuz people pick them up over the weekend shopping.

lol... nathanhuth. Yea... for $1200 thats not that great of a deal.. Many people have herd me say this before but here it goes. ...

Look for the XPS M140 on dell outlet. You can then buy a 20% off coupon on ebay $2-3. I ended up getting my XPS M140 for $700 shipped. PM 1.73 1GB RAM, DVD +/- Burner, BT, Wi-Fi, 9 cell (7hrs) 60GB HD.

A friend just brought it form oversease to me. Its quite a nice notebook. Isn't really a thin and light, but is fine for my needs. The screen is nice and bright and is really nice, the keyboard is nice... just about everything met or passed my expectations. With the 9 cell its just under 6lbs. If you can get a deal like I got for $700 then go for it. Otherwise.... I don't think its really worth $1200. You could get somthing nicer then that for $1200. Good luck on your NB Purchase :)

I checked on the Asus Z63a...an equivalent sytem would be $1600+ same for the MSI 1022: $1500+ and I'm not getting the same warranty (3yr in home serv).

As per the Dell Outlet...not easy at all. I haven't found a notebook with similar specs yet...

I found another coupon and was able to bring the price down to $1150...

    Any other suggestions?

I'm leaning now towards the compaq V2000z with the Turion 64 ML-40...similar price, similar size but with 64 bits.

I received the M140. It's awesome in most aspects but it doesn't do click on me...I don't know...
