ZipZoomFly.com has the Hitachi TravelStar 7K200 0A50940 on sale for $170.99 without shipping ($ varies):
    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produ...=120407&ref_id=4245&ref_t=Z&originid=85437657

*UPDATE* Price dropped from $173.00 to $170.99. :D

    -200GB capacity
    -7200RPM rotation speed
    -16MB cache
    -SATA interface

Overall it's a decent deal. Newegg has it for 179.99 shipped but going through ZZF might be cheaper depending on where you live.

Pretty good deals. What was the lowest before? I might get one of these.

I'm not sure what the lowest was before, but I do remember them going for $200+ not that long ago.

Before you get one of these though, I'd suggest looking at Western Digital's 320GB 5400RPM drive; it's $199 from WD's store (not in stock right now but . . . it was):

5400rpm vs 7200rpm? Then there's a compromise, should I get a bigger capacity, but a slower performance, or should I get a faster performance, but less capacity? How much of a difference is there between the 2?

The Scorpio also only has an 8 MB cache as well; I'd stick with the Hitachi.

It's the same price (or close). Too bad that deal ended a couple of months ago.

BTW, I've seen the 7K200 for $145 or so on Ebay. I keep checking every so often if there's a good deal or not.

Not so, I just got this deal for less than $120 a couple of weeks ago!

This item has been going on and off sale for a long time, and it could go back on at any time, just keep checking, that's what I did, and look at the crazy deal I got with a 10% off coupon.

Oh I see. It just said the deal ended as of Oct 14 so I assumed it's been over since... *knocks head*

Hey, is there any warranty on that "USB" version? I mean, do you get the same coverage as Hitachi's travelstar series?

Well, keep in mind the drive inside of the external case is the same drive we are talking about here, but there is an interface in the case that converts it to a USB connector.

As for the warranty, I don't really know, but I think that it may be covered somewhere in the other thread. If I remember correctly the warranty is less, like maybe one year or something. Keep in mind that removing the drive from it's case will likely void any warranty. Personally I wasn't too worried about it, and bought it with the full intention of removing it from the case and installing it into my notebook.

I just got the same drive from NewEgg for about $180 a few weeks ago. Great performance from the drive, both speed and noise. Highly recommend.

^ Concur. I got mine yesterday and did Vista Ultimate, Office 07 and CS3 yesterday. This is a great drive.

Why in the world did ZipZoomFly drop their free shipping? That was the one reason I kind preferred them over Newegg (and the fact that they ship via FedEx, :)).
