    Coupon works like a charm.

$649 for the lowest base model

The specs are pretty weak. 3 cell battery, 512mb RAM, and dvd-cdrw don't cut it. You're paying mostly for the Lenovo quality...

Depends on what he needs, if he stays at his desk and just uses basic office apps and stuff he should be fine. You still might want to upgrade ram to 1 gig though.

well, u can pay 250$ for the 6 cell, 1GB, 120 GB and stuff...
Since I dont burn DVD on the road, I just rather buy a 6 cell on ebay and upgrade ram on my own

The 12.1" laptops are EXTREMELY small. My father has one since he is constantly on the road and only needs it for basic functionality (Word, email, basic web browsing, Skype at the most). Let me tell you that the laptop is TINY. It is about as thin as a 200 page book. You are basically paying for portability. But for some people, that is all they really need. Although the 3-cell battery is only estimated to last 2.2 hours...

Well, not quite so weak. It comes standard with a T5500, which is pretty good at $650. DVD/CD-RW isn't much of a problem because not everyone burns a DVD daily (in fact, I rarely use the CD drive altogether). The 512MB of memory can be upgraded pretty cheaply if you do it yourself (1.5GB for under $50). The 3 cell battery is kind of a bummer though, I guess you could buy a 6 cell off ebay if you really needed the larger battery. I like the weight savings though. I'm liking the way this sounds, I might have to seriously consider it if my Sony dies once more.

I am in no way saying 12" is bad. I am using a 12" laptop myself right now.

But for $900 up front, then waiting for a mail-in rebate, it's not really a "bargain" in my opinion in compared to an Averatec 2370/2371.
