No, this isn't a joke, and it will only cost you your time. Anyway, CNet recently had an article on how to go about getting a free copy of Windows 7 upgrade. It basically comes down to pre-ordering two copies of the OS for $49.99 apiece, waiting until October when Windows 7 goes live, and then re-sell one of your copies for $100. This shouldn't be too hard considering that they will be $120 out the door at this point.

Anyhow, you can read the full article by clicking the link below:

Its free for people that buy a vista based laptop during the promo period, they get a free win 7 upgrade.

This trick however is not free, its buying double trying to resell for a profit later.

yeah i guess that would work but waiting 5 months to get the money back its worse than getting money back on rebates....

Most places where you purchase the Windows 7 upgrade don't charge you until the product ships. So, you may end up waiting less time to get your money back than the time most rebates take.

i'll pass on this... don't think there are that many people who need windows 7 upgrades and willing to pay full price(new PC buyers now get them free, so whoever's left would be people who didn't want to pre-order now...un-technological folks who get shafted by microsoft's 6 windows 7 lines who feel like ordering from ebay/craigslist?)

    yea.

I guess I meant that it won't be free for any of us that have had Vista for more than a couple weeks.

new pc buyers aren't getting w7 for free as it's already included in purchase price. i was very close to ordering w7 upgrade myself but felt i should at least get my money's worth out of vista ultimate (which does a fine job for my purposes). i suspect most will probably get their free upgrade from recent purchase, hold off on buying new pc until w7 is released, pre-order w7 for $50 right now.

I would just pickup one from Walmart and use. No hassle at all!

    no, it's not.

the version of Windows that they're getting on their PC when they buy it is the version of windows included in the purchase price.

What about buying 10 copies and making $500?

See the problem is if this idea gets into too many peoples heads, then the going price for 7 when its released (on eBay and craigslist etc) will be like $60-70.

Watch it be a ploy by MS to fool you all and the actual price of the OS is the same price as the pre-order and they just want you to buy multiple copies :p

Also I doubt you will be able to sell it for full price, nobody has a reason to take a risk on ebay or something when a regular store will have it for the same price, plus you have to take the risk of selling it, the time to pack it up and mail it out and also take the paypal fee's.

Just not worth it IMO, but if you want to try it let us know how well you do.

No one said anything about selling it for full price...

As stated in the CNet article linked on the first page.

my only reason for not pre-ordering windows 7 is that its an upgrade disc, not a full version.

if i ever had to reformat, (which i most likely would) i would hate to have to install vista and then 7.

Yeah and I have had to do a fresh Vista install a few times with my Vista upgrade disk, but if your a man with little money like me its not a big deal. Takes an extra 10 or 15 minutes.
