Haha, I wish I could...I screwed up and added (then deleted) an Academic Discount item to my cart, and it wouldn't let me use the coupon code anymore :(. Had to call in. Glad I could help someone :)

Try calling in, every once in a while they have extra codes available to their phone support. And, I'm not surprised, it was an AMAZING code.

I got the same response at first. Then I tried again and made sure to use caps for the letters in the code and it worked..."NB4355" instead of "nb4355." Not sure if that's all you need, but it worked for me.

I called the Sales Associate line, selected the "Order Assistance" option, and got some odd-sounding guy who gave me this really long and pedantic explanation of why the coupon is no longer available, and would not give me the discount.

What did you guys do? Did I get the wrong department or something?

Please let me know... I'd like to do this.

I got the discount. All i did was ask if the coupon was still valid, and gave the code, he went through the customizing process with me and put the code on at the end. Very easy to do.

Which dept did you select after you called the sales assistance line? They wouldn't do it for me.

I did exactly that, and asked the girl if the code was valid. She said that it had reached the maximum usage, and there was nothing she could do.

This is getting frustrating... how come they're doing it for you guys and not for me? I figure that you must be doing something differently? Are you being really aggressive with them or something like that?

Offer is dead. The phone line guys did have a few coupons left, but they are also gone now as of earlier this afternoon. Spoke with a "manager" who offered me everything under the moon to get me to buy but could not match the 30%.
He did mention that they had gotten a lot of calls on this deal, and which was a good thing. He suspects HP will come up with something comparable soon.

The cat is out of the bag. Sales are not going to pick up any time soon. I expect that the deal will be back in some form in a few days.

I wouldn't be too surprised to see a better deal in a few weeks.

i would be fairly surprised, since the 30% off is one of the best hp coupons out there for notebooks configured with higher specs. the 500 off 1400+ is only better if the configuration comes out to less than 1667. i don't really see them coming out with something better than that anytime soon.

yep, i love my HDX16. i ordered it on black friday after many hours of pressing F5, and got it about a week and a half later. there was surprisingly little crapware preinstalled (i think only norton and a few trial programs), but i opted for a clean install anyway. reinstalling the drivers was a piece of cake, since the most important drivers were in the "drivers" folder of SWSetup.
prior to the clean install, the volume/bass/treble sliders caused an on screen popup that indicated their levels. it was slightly buggy, so afterwards i opted not to install that driver (the mediasmart menu). the volume slider still works without a popup, which is good, but the tradeoff is that there is no bass/treble control. i don't really notice the loss in everyday usage.
the 1080p screen is very nice, but this resolution might be a bit small. my previous laptop had a 15.4" 1280x800 screen, so it took some time to adjust to the difference in resolution. decide whether the full HD screen is worth the $175 upgrade before you buy it. otherwise you'll be paying to get eye strain from squinting all the time.
other than it being a fingerprint magnet, i really have no complaints about the laptop. i've been watching 16:9 videos on it and the lack of the vertical flanking black bars is pretty nice. did some light gaming (audiosurf, lol), and it worked without a hitch. wireless reception is pretty good, and battery life is decent, getting around 2.5 hours on power saver mode before needing to plug in. the computer runs pretty cool (hottest part is the middle of the screen hinge when it is at maximum brightness), and not much fan noise (but then again, i haven't stressed it too much). given my usage habits (watching videos, light gaming, standard everyday computing), i fully expect this to last me 3+ years.

there is no 500 off coupon code :(
i was just trying to give an example of coupon codes that HP has offered in the past. my bad if it was misleading.

as for finding out about these codes, dealigg, slickdeals, fatwallet, and the nbr forums are pretty good about posting them soon after they come out.

Actually I am kind of glad I didn't pull the trigger. After reading another thread regarding Blu-Ray performance on an HDTV with the laptop drive as source, I am less convinced to buy Blu-Ray on a laptop. Without the high end Multi-media component this is not a very compelling laptop.

I would like to see some sales/coupons/rebates on ASUS in the next couple of weeks. I could probably be persuaded to buy a new N50 for similar money as the HDX16t with better components and faster proc.

Normally when an HP coupon is expired, doesn't the message usually say its "expired" as opposed to its "invalid"?

Anyway I'm thinking all those thousands of people who wanted to buy an HP for 40% off on black friday and got screwed by LIVE.com were waiting for this, and they all jumped on it once they heard. Because the 30% coupon that came out before black friday lasted at least a week for me.
