Oleg Maddox's world famous Il-2 Sturmovik series of flight simulators continues to expand. The latest offering, Il-2 1946, adds 36 new planes, four new gigantic maps, over a hundred new ground objects, and nearly 200 new campaign missions. This new opus also includes all of the previous IL-2 series content: IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack and Pacific Fighters. What was years ago began as a one-aircraft study sim is now an astonishing anthology, with a whopping 229 flyable aircraft and over 300 aircraft total!

I have IL-2 1946 and it's an awesome game! I'd say it's definitely worth $4.99 to get it.

Definitely worth $4.99. One of the best WWII combat flight games/sims ever. Good thing is that it runs even on older integrated graphics and you can fly with the keyboard, although I'd advise against it!

Yeah, I put it on my netbook and obviously don't tote around a joystick with me. However I do have an old Saitek gamepad with a throttle on it that works marginally well. But I have flown whole missions by keyboard. Not ideal but it gets the job done!

Oh god. I can't imagine playing this game without my joystick.

What doesn't kill you makes you a better pilot!

As my flight instructor always told me, "a good landing is when you can you can walk away from the plane, a great landing is when you can use the plane again."
