I'm confus. Why would you put your page file onto a RAM disk?

And why would you buy ddr2 ram? Unless it was a typo....
    Just search newegg or Amazon.
But it's pointless to put a page file a ramdisk. A page file is basically virtual ram when a program needs more ram than you have. So you're wasting ram space to create this much crappier and slower virtual ram (the page file).

I just don't get why people can't create normal theme's name???
Op is looking for "some" RAM. I have "some" RAM. I can give it for "some" money.
Is it "some" OK for "some" informative name?

As said above there is no need to put page file on RAMDisk unless its size is like 32MB or less.

Because I have an SSD and I have read that is what's recommended for longevity

OK so then my problem would be solved by getting 8GB of ram and keeping virtual memory off?

Fixed, sorry I was tired. I need DDR2 because that's what will fit in my N51VN-A1.

So currently I have 4GB of ram with page file/virtual memory off, should i make a 32mb page file in ramdisk?

If I can't find a good deal on this I will just wait for HDD prices to come down and then buy a 7200RPM WD 750GB or higher for around $60 and get a $10 enclosure. I just thought I might as well make my notebook faster by upgrading the Ram since I really don't need the extra space since all my movies, music, pictures and documents are on the (free) cloud services

I can keep making amazon accounts for everything I need so space is not an issue.

if you create 32 page file it will not wear your ssd. big page file will wear it. Do you have 2 sticks 2 gb each or 1 4 gb stick?
What OS do you have? I suggest you to buy only 1 4gb stick to have 6gb total. That should be enough. HDD is bad for paging im your case. you may create 34 mb ramdisk. do not let it save itself on ssd each time before shutdown. set OS to erase pagefile before shutdown. use google.

Done, so as long as I don't tick off the boxes in the second tab of ramdisk it won't use the SSD?

I too was looking for 2x4Gb ddr2 800 ram for my Inspiron. Post in the WTB section of the NBR marketplace. Took a few weeks, but eventually I got the RAM for $65 shipped from a member here.. I also picked up the T9400 for $35 shipped from another member.

I'm getting a new laptop in August/September so I'll be selling of the RAM and Proc then since I'm giving this laptop to my mom and she won't need more then a few GB and the stock T4200.. Not sure if you'll still be in the market then, but I'll post it here on the marketplace first..

I experimented with RAMDisk - it's useful in some cases, and you can definitely use it for page file, although it's kind of counterproductive since you use up your RAM.

Here's the DDR2 I bought - it still works perfectly, but if you can find some brand modules (Samsung, Hynix, Kingston, etc) it would be better: 8GB 2x4GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 SODIMM Memory for Toshiba | eBay

Yeah, they dropped to $85 a few months ago, now it seems the price is up again. You could buy used modules on this forum or eBay if you find one from a reputable seller - RAM chips are practically unkillable, so used will work just as fine as new, as long as they're not subject to a strong static discharge or physical damage...

Don't worry about your SSD. Other than constantly writing, copying, pasting, and deleting data all day every day your SSD will be fine. Page file uses the same amount whether you make it a minimum 10MB or 10GB in size. It just reserves that should it need it.
