I don't know how much longer this sale will last, but Newegg currently has the Intel 80GB G2 SSD listed for $224.99 with free shipping.![]()
-
Wow, this is the retail version too, not the OEM one. Bet it'll be sold out in the next few minutes
-
Don't ... tempt ... me ...... gah!
I've been wanting to put one in my desktop, and an 80GB will do since I have everything else on my 500GB HDD. My 150GB Raptor is over 4 years old now, and basically just has my Windows install on it. I figured I'd replace it with an SSD when it goes, or at least try to replace it BEFORE it goes. But $224 is still a little pricey. I'd rather have a 160GB at that price... I know I'm not being practical. It's late and I'm rambling. Thanks for the deal though +1 (at least you got something out of this lol).
Edit: I spread too much rep today. Hope I remember for tomorrow. LOL. -
Looks like amazon has it also for same price

OEM is $5 cheaper too, what's the difference?
-
-
Well that bites. Got my SSD a couple of days earlier to this deal, the OEM one.
-
Wow, what a privilege!
This is like buying a shirt with:
OEM = the company logo is inside, in the back, upside down
Retail = the company logo is outside -
The warranty is the same.
I saw this a couple of days ago when I was SSD browsing. Almost bit but decided on the X-25M G2 160GB. -
-
Well hopefully when intel introduces G3 and bigger capacities they'll drop some but I'm not sure they'll go that far. Eventually though.
-
Retail includes 3.5" hard drive bracket. I bit and bought it. I feel so dirty. I dunno, replacing my trusty old Raptor (over 4 years old mind you) in my desktop. 80GB is just far too little for my laptop.
-
ZZF has it for even cheaper after MIR: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10010803&ps=homain1
-
Thanks for the heads up but no thanks on MIR. I got my retail for ~ $220 with Bing cashback.
-
Dang! Ordered it at about 2am, already shipped out. No chance to change my mind. Darn efficiency. LOL. I'm sure I could get my money back if I sold it as new on eBay.
-
I wonder how much those 3.5 brackets actually cost-
-
Well considering I probably couldn't buy one for $5, I'd say I'm ok with it, and I need one.
-
Duct tape?
-
Maybe it wasn't such a great deal after all, it's not sold out yet. Surprising. Usually these things fly off the shelf.

This will be my test drive I guess. Depending on how this goes, I'll have to start saving up for a 256GB in my laptop, probably in whatever new laptop I buy end of this year. Just can't afford $500 at the moment, and 256GB probably won't cost that until end of this year anyhow, if even then.

SSD prices are going down faster now, different sale every day. Looks like the market has grown enough to start to have competition within itself. Competition between the brands is going to equal lower prices for us.
I well expect some great deals when the intel refresh comes out later this year, and thats probably going to mark the best time to buy for a long while. -
When are G3's due out? I heard not until very end of this year? Maybe that's when I'll jump on a decent sized one for my laptop.
-
It's very tempting for me to get one myself, but I'm trying to save for another notebook.

I do not think the big price cut will be instant I think the G3 will have to level out supply/demand first, then the good deals will crop up. -
One thing I noticed on this Intel is that the Sequential Read is 250MB/sec but the Sequential Write is only 70MB/sec where most others are close to 200MB/sec write. What's up with that? I went with Intel because they say "it's the best", but write speed it seems a bit lacking.

Yeah it has sequential write speeds lower than some others but faster random access and I/O or something and thats supposed to be way more important.
In real life testing Intel beat most other drives even if they had better benchmarks. Also read is used way more often that write.
I think overall the G2 intel drives are considered to be the best ones you can get. They support all of the features (trim/garbage collect), have good reliability/warranty, and good real life usage benchmarks.
I kinda wish they followed the 30/60/120/240 GB setup that other companies use as the 80GB is just a tad too small for me and the 160GB is overkill so a 120GB drive would be the best fit for my budget and needs. -

I ordered one, I hope it works well in my desktop
Should arrive tomorrow...
-
Lol, still available. Usually when I wait on something like this it sells out right away. This tim I act, and it's still available.
-
I ordered one as well, I figured for this price I might as well buy one, I've been wanting an SSD for a while I just didn't want to pay a lot for it. 80GB is big enough for me to use it in my day to day laptop and be satisfied. Should be here in a few days

Does OEM have a shorter warranty than retail one?
-
I believe it's the same warranty. The only difference is you don't get retail packaging or the extra accessories; in this case the 3.5" bay mounting kit.
