WOW! Great deal. Just makes me wonder what pricing will be like when G3's get here. Maybe $150 for a 120GB in six months, wouldn't be too shabby.
-
micro center has 150 for a 128 gb hd right now
its just always out of stock.
thats the retail price not a sale
it is a rebranded a data

So how good are A-data, what controller?
-
both intel and sandforce.
they are good
that particular one i dont know -
So the MicroCenter rebranded A-data SSD is Sandforce? There's four in stock at my local MicroCenter. I may have to go buy one if it's a Sandforce.
edit: appears it is a JMicron JMF612 controller, ADATA S596, with TRIM support.

Comes with a USB port built in too. Very nice.

This is an amazing deal. And to think, a little less than a year ago I bought my X-25M G2 80GB for $200 shipped used!
-
Same here. I bought my 80GB G2 I in April for about $220 shipped (new). But what do you all think this means when G3's are released? I mean if you can hold out for another month, chances are these will be priced less than $190 without rebate. Thoughts?
-
Well.. I'm a proponent of a "if you need it now, just buy it." principle.
Which one of your drives you want to replace? Both of yours look pretty good.
-
I think "if you need it now just buy it" if it's critical, but if you know something is coming very soon, it's worth a little wait if it's not so urgent.
-
The 128gb Microcenter SSD is not a Sandforce drive. The only one they sell currently that is Sandforce is this one:
Micro Center - Micro Center 64GB SATA II 3.0Gb/s 2.5" G2 Series Solid State Drive (SSD) With SandForce 1222 Controller 122663
I have one of these 64gb drives in my MSI Netbook U100. Comes in a plain white box with a Microcenter sticker on it. On the side of the drive itself is a sticker that states "Removal of this sticker voids warranty. A-Data." It's a great drive for the price. But yes, given that this X25 drive was just released, it's a great price. I also agree that it will probably come down in price when the G3 is released, whenever that is... -
I'd say wait if
1. You know something is coming out very soon.... like next week.
2. You know it's going be at the decent price. Or you know the older component will go down in price significantly.
3. You know that even if something is "coming out very soon" it's also going to be available "very soon".
Now... I don't know about you, but I don't have that kind of insider info.I mean I don't know what do you want/need. Both Sandforce based SSDs that I have are really just great and super-fast for what I am doing. I don't think we'll be seeing that kind of jump in the disk drive performance any time soon.
-
Intel G3 SSD's are due released Q1 2011. Sure that could mean until March, but considering Sandforce has the gain on Intel, I'm sure they're ready to pull the trigger sooner than later. I still think this is an awesome deal and you can't beat the consistency or reliability of an Intel.
Personally, I'm not pining for a new one just yet. May be replacing my netbook with an Acer 3820TG and will want a larger drive in it only because it's a gaming capable compact notebook so will need room for games mainly. Otherwise what I have is fine:
Intel G2 80GB in my netbook
OCZ Vertex 2 60GB in my gaming desktop
Kingston V-Series 64GB in my productivity desktop
500GB Momentus XT in my notebook PC
So I have a good spread of product to evaluate. -
Ah then makes sense. If you want to really get the most of it, you can buy a computer exactly when it comes out.
But then... it most certainly won't be the cheapest. Then if you wait... you get close to something else coming out. That's what I was thinking of.

Hmm 120gb from Intel? New model then? It used to only be 40/80/160 etc...
